I, however, would love to see AcaCandy exposed.

You are too funny.

I wholeheartedly agree with the position that Mike MUST take. I also agree it's his way or the highway as well.

I just find it humorous in one way or another

Yes, photos are covered by copyright protection as well, however, use of a photo for criticism and/or satire regarding political issues comes under fair use. Photos are not like written articles, you can't just post part and link to the remainder, it is either an all or nothing proposition. For that reason the restrictions are not as stringent provided your use isn't for commercial or monetary gain.

Candy just posted this elsewhere...I can imagine how it could be misconstrued by our bunch in CivDeb!

I got a better idea.....assuming Mike has the cojones (if I spelled that wrong please correct)...Mike should contact Newsweek and tell them that since we steal their articles so much they might as well put a link to TSG on every page on their web site.
You know sometimes making a big cojones move gets you what you want!

Guilty as Charged
I missed this thread until GB PM'd me. I would never knowingly do anything to jeopardize this site, so will now comply with Mike's request, no matter how much it will hurt. I've enjoyed the back and forth banter, thanks.

I've always thought that the articles I was posting were either interesting in their own right, exposed me to new thought, or helped in continuing, or fleshing out the discussions we were having here. I will now post links, and explain why I think it is worth checking the link, how I think it pertains, or what it is about.

No, Mr. Green you are incorrect. I am not going to get into a debate with you about copyright law, but suffice to say it is designed to prevent taking unfair advantage of another's work. I guarantee you that the vast majority of copying and pasting that is done here would not be considered a copyright infringement (at least not a compensible one) regardless of whether the author gave or did not give permission. Additionally, many sites specifically state that copying is permitted for the use we do here (i.e., as long as it is not for commerical benefit).
And that is absolutely true no matter what Mike wants to do here. I frankly think he's over-reacting a bit--we've posted thousands of articles here without a problem and you had one person/entity complain and all they wanted was it removed. But then again its his site and he's the one that makes the rules.

I've said that about five times now, in this thread alone, so if you want to say that I want a copyright acknowledgment.

I want to know about comic strips, gif, etc. Would they be included in this as well? The ones I use, are with permission, but the odd time, I can't find an answer at the site. Anybody?
