Illegal immigrants smile after being released from the Border Patrol Station in Harlingen, Texas, April 13, 2005.

Since the Sept. 11 attacks, more than 118,000 undocumented migrants who were caught after sneaking over the nation's borders have walked right out of custody. They are the so-called OTM, or "Other Than Mexican," migrants too far from their homelands to be shipped right back. Because there is no place to hold them all, they are released with a notice to appear in immigration court. Over the years, thousands have failed to show up - and the rate of release is increasing. all they need i guess is fake id saying theyre from argentina even though they may be from mexico

idiot usa gov!!

speaking of the "boarder", I just heard someone on t.v. describe California as an "imigrant rich" state Is that pc or what? It almost sounds like that is an asset....go figure.

What about just sending everyone to Mexico, Mexican immigrant or Russian. Send them all to Mexico. Eventually Mexico will get tired of taking everyone and tighten their security...

Next time you are in the supermarket-----buying all that nice California produce, remember who picked it---Next time you are in a motel or hotel and you want someone to clean up your mess, make sure you remember who made your bed. Next time the gardner comes to your house to do your lawn, remember who mowed it. Next time you see a guy with a mop and bucket washing the floors in your supermarket, remember that he might be an immigrant. Next time you go to a hospital and the Doctor saves your arse, make sure you remember that he to might be an immigrant.

Thats what they meant by immigrant rich---and by the way, the word rich can mean abundant and doesn't necessairly connote lots of money. I dont see anything wrong with saying that California is immigrant rich.

linskyjack..... I got to thinking about my wording..... I don't have trouble with "immigrants" literally, just the "illegal" mexicans flooding our state. A lot of them abuse the welfare system and don't have the jobs you described above, they just get a free ride...on us

So, to set the record straight, I do know that Immigrants can be an asset....we are all immigrants if you think about it? Illegals aliens and their abuse of the "system", like I said above, is what bugs me.

Hotskates! I see you know very little about the issues, the Mexicans that come here have no idea what Weelfare is and much less about our laws. If you want change, stand with a megaphone at the border, learn spanish and give a speech explaining how the people should not cross because we dont want them to boost our economy. Take away the people here iegally, you will eliminate tourism and shoppers that come here from Mexico, soon you will need to move north to avoid dying of hunger for the cities at the borders, like San Diego, will be gone and the US will be known as the country who opresses foreign people, wait, that reputation is already true.

This I don't believe! I'd think it would be more the opposite...the illegals informing others who want to come here as they have how to buck the system.....after they let them know how to get here in the first place! But that's my opinion!

I don't get, in the other thread you guys are saying that they are stealing your jobs and here you are saying that they are explioting your welfare system. How is that possible? And how can they get welfare from the state when they are illegal in the first place?

Because they are being paid off the books. So they have the income from the job, in cash, yet also receive welfare benefits. It's more commonly called "committing a criminal act".

Following is an email Jim Welker forwarded on Oct. 19, 2005:

Dear Friends,

I know that we get too much to read sometimes, but this is a must read. I am not saying I agree with everything, but Frosty Wooldridge has some very startling information. We need to contact our leaders in Washington, DC, so they will make the necessary changes in the very near future for the sake of our great nation!

Rep. Jim Welker
Loveland, CO

Subject: Immigrants Displacing Americans! By Frosty Wooldridge

IMMIGRANTS DISPLACING AMERICANS
By Frosty Wooldridge

October 3, 2005
NewsWithViews.com

How would you like an unrestricted line of pregnant mothers from foreign countries arriving at your local hospital and birthing their babies in your maternity wards? What if those pregnant women arrived in the USA illegally and gave birth to 383,000 every year, decade after decade? How would you like it if your tax dollars paid for these births, subsequent schooling, welfare, food stamps, assisted housing and resulting jail sentences for crimes committed by their offspring?
Source

About Rep. Jim Welker (R-Loveland, CO) from the other side of the aisle.

Although these sources originate in Colorado I believe it illustrates the dichotomy between getting welfare and "stealing jobs". The entire family comes over illegally, the adult males work illegally while the the adult females who become pregnant go to the emergency room during delivery and cannot be turned away, thus providing the new mother a way into the welfare system.

When California attempted to close this loophole via the voter referendum process in 1994, which passed during record voter turnout with a good margin of victory, the ACLU immediately brought a lawsuit and struck the new law down.

I work in skilled trades and I see a fair share of illegal immigrants working, but most of those are also trying to get valid citizenship by attending ESL and other citizenship programs. I'd prefer an immigrant to do the initial steps to gain citizenship before they come over to the US, but that's not always feasible. If you come to the US illegally and work hard to gain citizenship then you're not a problem IMHO.

I also see my fair share of illegal immigrants at my local "big-box" hardware emporium lining the driveways, sometimes 2 or 3 deep, and the local citizens who engage their services for as little as $20 for 8-10 hours of physical labor. Who is to blame here? the illegals who take jobs from local tradesmen? or the homeowners/contractors who employ and exploit them? perhaps it's the city and county governments who do nothing to enforce labor regulations?

In summary, IMHO most illegals who come to the US desire a way to do this legally but end up getting exploited and become disillusioned, eventually just trying to get their "fair share" just like most of the other "lazy americans"

Thank-You linskyjack The same holds for Florida produce. Some of you need to look at the big picture. What would happen to the price of produce? Who would pick it? I would bet that no one here would be willing to go into the hot Florida sun & pick oranges, strawberries, and other produce 12 hours a day for practically nothing. In fact I doubt if any of you can last longer than 1 hour picking strawberries for top wages.

As far as abusing the system, look around, its an everyday occurance by just about everyone. Have you ever bent the truth on your tax form? Took something from your employer? Pulled one over on the man?? If so, YOU are abusing the system. Maybe its the SYSTEM that needs fixed.

Both my grand parents & my Father were immigrants and they busted their butt to make it here & provide for their childern. By the way unless you are a Native American, you too are an immigrant.
