W turns over US ports to deep pocket Arabs
I've been following this story for many days now, and it is only now finally breaking in the MSM.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060218/.../port_security

from the article:Schumer and others have cited the UAE's history as an operational and financial base for the hijackers who carried out the attacks against New York and Washington.

"A lot of families are incensed by this, because you're talking about the safety of the country," said William Doyle, whose son Joseph died at the World Trade Center. "We have a problem already in our ports because all of our containers aren't checked, but now they want to add this unknown? It's not right."

Thoughts?

Yes, I am surprised that this story didn't get more play (can't be the leftist media cabal because this story is another indictment of the Bush administration). Can you imagine, turning over security of an American port to the Emirates? Consider this, two of the animals involved in 9/11 were from the Emirates. Funny that righty has very little to say about this.

repost: http://forums.techguy.org/civilized-...ight-hand.html

What I don't get is: why is Dubya on the wrong side of this one, when Chuck Schumer and the Hilldebeast are actually looking out for the security of the US?

Well--thats actually a good question---I think that it might have something to do with the Bush ties to oil, and particularly to the Emirates. There is no other explanation for this madness. Hopefully, someday the Bush supporters in this country will realize how corrupt the man is.
by the Secretary of the Treasury Snow, who was a major player in this deal, is the former chairman of a freight rail company called CSX Corp--which sold its global port asets to Dubai Ports World for 1.15 billion in 2004.

I don't think it's a good idea. It's incredible how the business end of things, determine
the political things. Which, in my mind, aren't really democratic..

Keep your friends close. Keep your enemies closer.

So the saying goes. Perhaps this is the rationale of [any] administration. Except it didn't work to stop the first WTC hit, or the second WTC hit.

I think beachfront property values just dropped in select US areas

Ahh, some of the GOP leaders now questioning King George's administration decision;

"WASHINGTON (Feb. 21) - Two Republican governors on Monday questioned a Bush administration decision allowing an Arab-owned company to operate six major U. S. ports, saying they may try to cancel lease arrangements at ports in their states."

So refreshing - there ARE some Republicans out there who have intelligence and who will question Bush's idiotic decisions! What is it going to take for the American People to get involved and make him accountable?

They may have called Clinton "Slick Willie", but Bush definitely is "Oily/Greasy George" - a little like "slick" with oil connections!

Isnt this "closing the barn door after the livestock got out?"

The British company, Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., runs major commercial operations at ports in Baltimore, Miami, New Jersey, New Orleans, New York and Philadelphia.

we have already sold those port operations to another country....where was the indignation when that happened???

While yes, I see your point, how many of the 9/11 nutters came from the UK? and how many Islamic sympathisers work for the higher levels within P&O? I'd wager none. The better question is how many terrorist/Islamic sympathisers work for this Emirates company?? honest answer is we just don't know, but the chance is probably much, much higher. All it takes is one bent executive or local manager and all sorts of terrorist material could be flowing through your ports. IMO, ports airports etc should be run by companies of the same nationality. But that's just my humble opinion though.

I agree with what you've said, but I guess my point(s) were: first,no matter who controls those ports from a business sense, America is responsable for the security of those ports, not Great Britan or any other country...so what has changed ?? I wasnt poking a finger at Great Britan. That said, nothing has/will change, no matter who owns the business.

Second, since, as I saw on CNN Europe this morning, if we americans only manage to inspect 15 % of the incomming cargo in our ports, why would the terrorists care who owns the port business.

If this thread is more along the lines of critisizing the current administration, which I feel is really the issue, then say so without using this issue the way its being used! But for petes sake, dont cry wolf, just because its an Arab country thats trying to make the purchase!!

Poppycock---------The UAE can't even keep weapons transfers out of their own ports! The fact that we only inspect 15% of our cargo is the Bush administration's problem. We have known this for years but they have done absolutely nothing about it! Only the kool aid drinking true believers of the far right could ever support this madness.
