Grizzly Man
Timothy Treadwell spent much of the last 13 years of his life in the midst of grizzlies, and that's where he died at the hands of a Griz, along with his girlfriend...What do you think of this? I would never cross that line that has been forged for thousands of years...he seemed one beer short of a six pack...and did what a human being should not do..crossing that line between a human being and a wild animal...especially one capable of eating you...still the images he caught on film made a masterpiece. Befriending foxes and walking in the midst of man eating bears? Then he takes his girlfriend up there and they both get killed by a griz. What a strange but powerful and sad story.

Not my thing, but if that was his passion and it made him happy so be it.

It would be a cold day in hell before I'd go with him! I'd find a new boyfriend!

Not something I could do, but I admire him for doing it.

You live by the grizzly so you shall die by the grizzly! I'd read about that already too! He must have died a grisly death!

There was a good show about him and the making of his movie on Discovery a couple of weeks ago. Good balance between friends and aquaintances as to whether he was a nut or just a special misguided soul. The movie is supposed to air this weekend on Discovery. He did seem to have a special aura that allowed most animals to both be not afraid of him and not to bother with eating him. Unfortunately, in the wild as in civil society, not all members respect others and their abilities. An old tired and very hungry bear decided that his suvival was more important than sparing these two people. At first hearing this story, I believed that the main problem was probably due to his girlfriend not having the same abilities to befriend the bears as him and the bear attacked her and he got eaten trying to stop it. It seems that she had been there with him for the previous 3 summers and was pretty good as a camper/naturalist. Still, it seems that his fate is what he wanted, just not sure it is the fate his girlfriend envisioned.

Everyone should see Grizzly--great movie by a great movie maker. It's really a movie about how humans have a need to make animals human---and as we all know, that can be very dangerous. Beyond that, Tredwells "home movies" are a big part of the film and there is some incredible footage of the bears that go beyond anything I have ever seen.

As someone who survived a dual-bear attack, (Brown bears) I can tell you that wild bears are not teddy bears.

I think if a grizzly was approaching me swiftly, I'd run towards the nearest tree that I might be able to climb at least 50 feet into. (bears can climb a short distance) Then I would have a hert attack and fall out of the tree.

I think this guy blew it by bringing his girl with him. Bears are very jealous.

My psychologist girlfriend saw the flick and said he was a nutter suffering from a condition (I don't remember the name) where he thought the animals wanted him to be there. That is, he wanted to help the animals, but he thought the animals wanted him to to help them. And that what happened was inevitable because it's finally destructive behavior.

I only saw 10 minutes of the movie, but it was enough to convince me that he wasn't sane.

Then again, I guess most of the greatest artists have been completely nuts.

Actually, he wasn't a nutter----and he wasn't sufferring from a "condition" He was an eccentric---he constantly refers throughout the film to how dangerous it was, he spent the winter months going around to schools teaching kids about Grizzlies etc. He felt that his work would protect the bears habitat----Not your normal every day joe but certainly not psycho.

I saw the film....it's a masterpiece for sure

I expected him to be eatin...he should have felt the same way. One rogue bear...whether it be injured or old or just hungry would see him as tender viddles. And he was most definetely not all there mentally

I'm pretty sure I'll take her word over yours since she has a degree in psychology. She feels he suffered from general mania, including delusions of grandiose or erotomanic (erotomaniacal? "erotomanic" was her, sic, but I had to look up the word) nature.

Anybody who says they'd like to be die by mauling does not have what would be considered a normative brain.
