What is your position on, "Its Hard Out There for A Pimp" Winning an Oscar?
This appears to be a fire storm of controversy brewing. The rap song "Its Hard Out There for a Pimp" won an Acadamy Award for Best Original Song. It came from the movie Hustle and Flow about a Pimp who want to get out of the business and into music. I haven't seen it--don't think it would interest me!

I frankly think the song "In the Deep" from Crash, another nomination is vastly superior to the Pimp song, but of course personal tastes differ. I do have a very difficult time believing that all or even most of the Acadamy members voted for the Pimp song purely for its music value. I think they wanted to make a political statement (I know--hard to believe! ) and that's why the song won. I could be wrong!

When it was announced, my daughter couldn't believe it (she's 16) as she thought it degrades women. I'm not sure I agree with that--I just don't think the song was any good and was selected as an Acadamy "Affirmative Action" plan for Rap Groups.

What do you think? Any Rap fans have an opinion on this? I actually like some of the original Rap that came out, but was turned off to it by all the classless songs that are being put out. Although there still are some Rap songs I listen to. My older' daughter's fiance loves Rap--its his favorite.

I changed the channel when they got to that one. I do not normally watch the academy awards, but I was really enjoying watching Jon Stewart tweeking the hollywood liberal weenies.

If it was so Oscar worthy, why did they have to edit it for the telecast? Shouldn’t we have been able to hear it the way it was written? (Not that' I'd have wanted too) But it couldn't be played as written or ABC and the academy would have been fined by the FCC. But they were still able to keep the word "Ho's" in. Do any women find that word in that context to be degrading?

I hate when the teen boys out front call their girlfriends that and the "b" word! It's degrading...and gee....I wonder where they get that from....from nasty songs like that one!

I was just as surprised that Three Six Mafia won the Oscar but not because they dont have any talent or didnt deserve to win but simply because of who they are. Im still shocked. But Mulder, first off whats up my man? Hows everything going, thankyou for all your support and help while I was deployed. OK, now back to business, How can you believe that "In the Deep" from Crash is vastly superior to the "Pimp Song" if you have not heard the "Pimp Song"? Dont judge a book by its cover.

Bof ! The author of the song was certainly paying a tribute to Beelzebub while composing his master-piece !

I heard the song--I saw it live on the Oscars. Like I said, people have different tastes. I also think "In the Deep" is exactly the type of song that usually wins the Oscar. It is usually a moving, stirring ballad. I just have a hard time with Pimp winning over that one. I am not usually moved by music, but that song is absolutely fantastic for that purpose.
