Whitney Houston broke, addicted to crack?
By Trent McMartin Mar 31, 2006, 3:59 GMT

A revealing article set to appear in next week's issue of The National Enquirer claims that pop diva Whitney Houston spends much of her time abusing drugs in her bedroom and pleasuring herself with sex toys.
They have success, they are surely rich, they can afford whatever they want, they can meet interesting people, ... Why some of them are coming to this ?

1) It's the Enquirer......

2) I think famous people usually live in a fantasy world where they are never told no, never made to go without, and suffer little to no consequences for wrongdoing.

I don't know. I'm not famous, so I guess I'm not exactly the expert.

Sorry, its the Enquirer I would not believe anything written there.

Maybe if it came from a real news source.

Hi Di,

I do not know the Enquirer. It seems to be a tabloid from what I'm reading here. I should have checked.
I guess the 'fantasy world where they are never told no' may be a cause of problems to some artists : if they have no 'obtacles' to overcome, they don't have the feeling of achievement or completion and they must feel alone.
I remember some stories about Elvis Presley when he hired some people to laugh at his jokes.

The celebrities that seem to have the most issues are always the same people who hire a army of "yes men". They spend their life being told how amazing they are and that everything they say or do is great.
It's that or the "Premiership footballer syndrome" i.e. young, dumb and full of.......
These guys don't do a full days work as the average training regime is about 4-5 hours a day yet they get paid anything up to £100,000 a week, they can afford anything they want but they must quickly get bored of it simply because they get it too easily so they inevitably look for something else. That usually means drugs.

I would wager to say that celebrities with great talent fall at no higher a rate then normal citizens with great talent fall at------You just hear about the celebrities whereas no one ever hears about Joe the scientist with the 170 IQ who ends up drinking himself to death. Its probably a function of enviornment, genetic pre disposition and a couple of other variables.

Chicon: You aren't missing a thing by not knowing the tabloid "The National Enquirer"! They tend to stretch and/or exaggerate the truth and have been sued successfully multiple times by stars!

I think it's terrible the way some people who seem to have everything throw it all away on drugs! Especially some singers...I was shocked when Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers died of a cocaine OD! And he was 64 at the time! What a waste of life!

Some others who come to mind...Janis Joplin....John Belushi...Chris Farley....River Phoenix...Glenn Quinn....*Shaking Head*

imo, those other variables are immaturity and stupidity. Whitney was born with a million dollar voice and a ten cent brain. Get her surrounded by the 'wrong' crowd, those who see her as a bottomless money pit, and anything goes.....personally, I think the scientist should be getting more attention than the artist or the athelete anyhow, but know that ain't going to happen anytime soon.....

Last time i saw the Enquirer someone had caught a sasquatch on a hunting trip.

As for famous people, they don't know how to deal with simple things because they never have to. They are babied and never told no. If you had everything you could possibly want and more you wouldnt be happy. Then add on a low intelligence and an ineptitude at general living - what would you want to do after you came home from the big concert? Drinking all night sounds as good as anything else...

Let us not forget Andy Gibb of the BeeGees, one of my favorites. Excerpt from Wikipedia:

The Death Of Andy Gibb

Ironically, "Arrow Through The Heart" included lyrics about death ("I'm too young to die"). He travelled to England to fulfil the label's request for more songs, moving into brother Robin's estate in Oxfordshire. He turned to drinking heavily, and fell ill. On March 7, 1988, Andy was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford complaining of stomach pains. Three days later, on the morning of March 10, 1988, Andy Gibb died at the age 30 of myocarditis — a sudden inflammation of the heart muscle caused by a viral infection. While his years of alcohol and cocaine abuse did not directly result in his death, it did aggravate the condition. His body was brought back to Los Angeles, California for interment in Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills Cemetery. Determined to keep his memory alive, Pamela Hatch-Gibb and her daughter Angie have written and screenplay that is now in development to his tribute entitled "One Last Night."

Self-destructive behavior is an across the board thing. It's more visible with celebrities, but just as common in all walks of life. We all know somebody who was so smart, so talented, so popular.... then lost everything because of drugs or alcohol. And it has nothing to do with intelligence... some of the most brilliant and talented people who ever lived... also suffered with the biggest demons. People love to bash celebrities, like they're somehow not supposed to make the same mistakes that us "regular" folks do. They have the same wad of noodles in their craniums as the rest of us do... some are smart as whips... some not. Some make good choices... some not so good... just like everyone else.

Well said trekguy. Everyone has their own way of doing things.
And, people who want exposure and fame have a way of intensifying things.
(As if life isn't short enough).
When you have to go 100% the whole time of your life without respite, then things happen.
When they get to a certain level of intense pressure,
they break. As, most would. How they break is in their own manner.

I have seen a few Joe Scientists on TV that had high IQs and had to be evicted from their own homes as a result of extreme-pack-rat-ism, and other such problems.

I haven't seen any empirical evidence one way or the other correlating character flaws or personal demons with fame or fortune. That would be an interesting study to see. Anybody need a topic for a Masters Thesis?
