"Secret chinese concentration camp"
Some chinese guy was handing out these pamphlets and I read one, skeptically. All I found on google was new reports of this claim.

Quote:
A former Chinese journalist that worked for an overseas television station tells The Epoch Times in an interview in the U.S. of a secret concentration camp in Northeast China used by the Chinese communist regime to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

This news report is 3 weeks old - have any of you heard anything more about it?

Also read up on Falun Gong. Supposedly there are more members of this religion than the chinese government was comfortable with.

I wouldn't put it past the People's Republic to keep the people thinking the way the People want them to think.

I personally see no reason for skepticism in this case. If he was handing out anti-US pamphlets, or anti-Taiwan pamphlets, I would be skeptical.

Was he asking for money? Or was the pamphlet just an FYI?

Fairly recently (I would say within the last year or so) I walked by a group of people who were protesting the persecution of those who practice Falun Gong in China. I didn't take a pamphlet, but they had huge blown up pictures of the suffering these people had been through. I don't remember what city that was, though. Could have been New York. Could have been San Francisco. But the protests have been going on for a while. I believe their purpose is to bring Americans' attention to what's happening.

Some clarification: I see no need for skepticism, because it isn't really out of place for the Chinese govt. to persecute people for taking advantage of a freedom which we consider basic to human rights.

Seeing someone handing out pamphlets about Chinese concentration camps or Chinese torture, would surprise me though, because it's too obvious to hand out pamphlets for such a thing - kind like standing in a zoo handing out pamphlets that tell people that lions are carnivorous. Not something I would be inclined to look at with a skeptical eye.

Edit: Wendy, how is it that you do so much travelling?
