What do you think about putting up a fence between Canada and the U.AS.
I just want to get a feeling of what everyone thinks here of putting a fence up between Canada and the U.S.

I think that the country that wants that fence up that is the one that should pay for it. I don't want it to come for my taxes.

It would come to putting up a 5,000 mile fence. But then there was someone on the news talking that we need a double fence. So that would be 10,000 miles of fences.

And if the fence is put up it has to be maned by boarder patrol.

Then there is the wild life that crosses the border all the time.

I'm all for the 5,000 mile fence. We have to keep you Canadians from coming here and filling up your cars with our $2.75 gal gas.

Just kiddng Bush Lady, I love the Canadian folks I have alot of relatives up there.

Put up a fence if you want but pay for it and patrol it yourself. And don't expect Canada to pitch in even one lousy penny ... and stay out!!

I don't want a fence!

I'd like to see more fences come down, lose more borders sort of thing.

(I don't mean the US should try to conquer Canada again)

You know, this is so typical of the current administration (shaking head here) ... the Berlin wall was torn down, the iron curtain went up and the crazy Bushites wanna put up a fence betwixt their biggest trading partner??

It's not like the Canucks are sneaking across in hopes of landing low-paying jobs. I won't even validate the supposed influx of terrorists streaming in from Canada, that's a fear-mongering crock anyway. They can get in with a passport or in a shipping container almost anytime they want.

And if Unkie Sam thinks it'll stem the flow of BC bud he's totally out to lunch!! The only way he may take a bite out of that is to somehow decrease the demand for pot on the US side (unlikely, not in their power) ...

It's all crap with a capital 'C' probably designed to take the focus off the desperate problem on the southern border and the port security fiasco

I really don't think you can compare it to the Berlin Wall. It's not as if they are going to have machine gun nests to keep people in. It's just ti insure that anyone crossing the border is using the crossing they are supposed to use. On paper it sounds like a great idea but realistically I don't see it. The animals as mentioned above comes to mind and there is many other reasons why such as a few towns I'm aware of that are Canadian on one side of the street and US on the other... How do you divide them?

I think there are better ways such as adding more motion detection, cameras and more importantly more manpower and resources.

Of course you can't, I was using a bit of artistic licence . I wasn't just talking about the fence per say, but also the fact that starting this year (or next) a passport to cross the border will also be required. Consider the border delays now and just imagine what the extra paper work will do ...

The point is I don't think it's necessary, we've done without for hundreds of years. It will only complicate everything and needlessly increase costs, for both transport and tourism ... both ways.

Actually, believe it or not, there have been issues with cattle ranchers smuggling livestock across the USs northern border. I thought whole mad-cow and foot-and-mouth scares would've put a stop to it, but I haven't heard anything ...

Holy cow, I see an international incident written all over this one.
If we build a fence, we must have machine gun nests. Our cheap cigarettes must not fall into Canadian hands.

Why should there be a fence... the illegal immigrants are not coming from the north...

Anyways, to put one there would make the US look like an insecure country...

oh wait..

It was brought up on a news cast up here. Someone was interviewed, I think he was an Americian. He suggested that a fence would keep the illegal drugs out.

So this brings on the argument, how do the illegal drugs get to Canada in the first place. Do they get in to this country by sea by plane or are they brought across the border by what ever other means of transportion those drug lords can think of.

I think there are more drugs crossing the border that are coming in anyother way. And I think the drugs are coming North more as opposed to going south.

But then what would I know.

The drugs are going to come through in any shape way or form. A border to your closest ally would be bad for sure.
