His obstacle is the evangelical base—a voting bloc that now makes up 30 percent of the Republican electorate
So 70% of the Republican base is not evangelical. And Do you really think these evangelicals will vote for Hillary instead of Romney? And McCain and Guiliani aren't Bible Thumpers by any means.

Actually, contrary to you Moore-Ons believing that Bush got elected because he was an evangelical, I think that hurt him. Yes--he got the evangelicals in force, but he lost a lot of middle ground voters that were very concerned with his adherence to religion.

We'll see who ends up the Republican nominee. I'm not claiming Romney is a shoe-in, but in my view, he is the most electable of the front running Republicans. If nothing else, the guy looks like a President and as we all know, that will go a long way with many voters!!!

70% might not be Evangelical---but that 30% can make or break a candidates ability to get through the primaries. Granted, he does look like a president, and that can play a role. By the way, if Hillary runs, I vote for McCain or Giuliani if nominated. I might vote for Romney--but I doubt he will make it through the southern primaries. By the way, I would really like to see a moderate democrat from the mid-west be the nominee of the dems----I would have no problem voting for an Evan Byah or a Thomas Vilsack. Unfortunately, Hilary is so far ahead in the money game that these guys have little or no chance of making it. As you all know, Hillary is both my neighbor and my Senator----and that's where she belongs. If she runs, it will be another disaster for the Democrats, unless of course the Republicans are foolish enough to run another nutjob like Bush.

Man, I really hate to get this one stuck in the "search for my posts" stack but ... Great post

I can understand why some of my peers (teenagers) would think Bush's administration is the Evil End All, because this was our first turn 'round the political bus and its all they've been hearing since 2000...But most of the diehard Libs around here have been through many presidents and administrations...
Bush's humility is oft mistaken for stupidity. Clearly the man is not stupid. Most people support their political opinions like they do fashion trends, without much thought. Then again, there are quite a few people out there who devote an awfull lot of thought to fashion trends and not much else. Hmmmm....

Ever wonder why so much political speech, sales speech, and arguments meant to convince, sway your opinion, etc. sound an awfull lot like,"Hooray for our side" and not much else(to blatantly plagiarize an old song)?

Why the hell would I care which car is 'best-selling'. I'm not buying my way into a popularity-contest, I'm buying transportation. How popular it is has very little bearing on my choice, but apparently that is not the case with most people. Keep that in mind any time you see something that appears to be a mass-hysteria.

I guess I'm just whacky.
You really are wacky(if you are using the term to mean 'different') if you actually think rationally about the 'why' of your opinions.

Islamic extremism will continue, outsourcing will continue, the cost of living will keep going up, wages continue to stagnate, stupid laws continue to be passed or kept, oil consumption and gas prices will continue to rise, immigration will still be an issue, social security and medicare will still be huge issues, and we will still be stuck with the same bunch of boneheads running our country. In short the nightmare will continue.
Oh, surely now, you must be joking

You mean, you don't think world peace will ensue the day Bush becomes 'former' president of the US???

Sorrry Mulder, you always seem to attract a lot of the wrong kind of attention.

I don't think you are whacky - I agree with you completely on the above statement. However, I do wish whichever party elects our President next time will select someone MORE intelligent and LESS divisive. There should be MANY people out there who qualify in that regard (Democrat, Republican or Independent) and I look forward to that at least. I don't remember (in my 70 years) of the Country being so divided and yet complacent. We seem to cause many our own problems in the US and then don't worry about them until we are forced to. See..................I am whacky, too - or maybe still just naive.
