How do You get someone to get off their ars and do something
How do you get someone that doesn't want to do anything. The person is getting opporunities, and letting things slide.

There is someone living here like that. This person was on welfare, a friend helped him out to get a job. Now the he is on unemployment insurance and when that is over his going to go back on welfare.

Instead of taking advantage of the opportunity while on unemployment insurance and going back to school to upgrade his skills. This person is just going to let everthing slide.

Other than help them find another job...nothing you can do will help. Hopefully they'll wake up eventually....

No way--wateva wouldn't have gone out to get a job--he'd have just stayed on welfare!

How do you get someone to get off their arse? With a big stick - threats usually work ... for a little while, then you have to prove you're not bluffing

Seriously, though. Why would this person's life concern you? Just because you're a taxpayer? Or is this person family or someone else you actually care for?

If you're merely a 'concerned taxpayer' forget it. Unless you can actually make money(perhaps you're a psychiatrist???) off of helping this person out, it pays to be selfish and worry about yourself more than about someone you don't care about.

On the other hand, if this is a friend or family member, find out what they really want in life, and help them get it. Listening usually pays off more than talking.

Good luck

He owes us a little stack of money. And if he doesn't go to work we are never going to see that money.

I'm assuming he is an adult...so...an able bodied adult shouldn't be allowed on welfare in the first place! Here In Michigan our governor passed a bill that took all able bodied single men 21 and over off the welfare rolls! Now there are some other groups she should work on getting off the welfare rolls!

I fact he came over with a friend of his last night. We all had a few beers. And then this friend of his really talked to him. The friend asked him what is he going to do with the rest of his life. The friend wanted him to go back to school and do something. And he doesn't want to do anything. The friend pist him off so he just walked home. I guess those two aren't going to be friends anymore.

And by the way, he is 43 years old.

The friend is a auto mechanic. And he wants to go back to school and do something a little easier.

Sorry, but it looks like you will never see the money anyway. I would throw the bum out if they are not paying rent or back debts. Be sure to check with authorities as you usually can't just throw their stuff out on the lawn and change the locks. It is sink or swim time for them and "tough love" is what is needed. Good Luck!

BL: I have an old boyfriend from 30 years ago who I have kept in touch with! He is going to be 59 this year! He hasn't had a job for over 25 years...instead living with his Mom and Dad. His Dad died 8 years ago...his Mom died this past Monday! He was taking care of her at home as she was suffering from Alzheimer's and he didn't want to put her in a nursing home. Therefore his only source of income was her social security checks! Well now those are gone...he has to be out of their trailer by the end of the month...nowhere to go...no job...who'll hire an unskilled worker that old and out of work that long! He doesn't qualify for welfare. Basically he's screwed! I told him years ago to start planning for this and he didn't listen! He has been hinting around about moving in with me...NOT going to happen EVER! All I can say is he better get out there and apply for any job he can get! I applaud him for taking care of his Mom...but now he is where he is due to some very bad planning! Warn your 43 year old friend of this! Eventually NO ONE will want him around mooching off of them!

He doesn't live for rent here. But we fell into the trap and tried to help the bum out.

And Angel, thanks
