Angry Tired of schools and their issues!!
Is anyone else as tired of hearing about schools and Evolution vs. Creationism? Or maybe the issues with Sex Education?? I live in what is considered to be the "Bible Belt" so I hear more about it than most probably, but after watching those things on the news a hundred times, I'm becoming sick of it.

Why is Evolution vs. Creationism so important to the education system today? In order to avoid conflicts when I went to high school (in a "bible belt" public school) we just avoided the topic completely. It's such a small portion of science, skipping over it doesn't lessen your education in any way. Why can't other schools be as smart as mine was? That way no parents have any reason to get upset, if they want their kids brought up believing a certain thing, they can teach their kids themselves, which I think is a brilliant idea.

And what is wrong with Sex Education? I realize it's been a while since I was in high school...about 4 years to be exact, and when we learned sex ed (in like 5th grade), it was the school nurse teaching us about how to take care of ourselves, and what to expect when we hit puberty, etc. Have they changed something that I don't know about to make it such a big deal? I mean are they encouraging kids to have unsafe sex or promoting orgies?

I hear that they are teaching kids how to use condoms, and telling kids how to avoid STD's...while still promoting abstinence. Why is this a problem, especially since (at my school at least) the entire thing was optional, and the parents had to sign you up for it? I would rather my kid know how to protect him/herself, than to not know and me not think about teaching them. Especially when everyone should face the music and realize that no matter how perfect their kids are, they are still doing that kind of stuff...it's just whether the parents know about it or not!

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with Sex Eduacation. I think that the kids should now what to expect before they get into trouble.

The only sex education we had in school was one week every semester. It was called health class. We had a week off in physical education class. We were told the names of the male and female sex organs and their functions. And were told about sexually transmitted deceases. That was it. Health Class.

You have no idea how the students hated that week of Health Class.

It was a good time for the students to catch up on their sleep. It was kind of embarrassing, if you think about it. The teacher couldn't even keep the students awake.

Heck, evolutinary science is one of the major movements in modern science, and essential to our understanding of biology. You let the religious nuts keep it out of the schools and we are going down the dark road of ignorance---Thats why it is important.

Evolution theory is taught in Catholic schools in Europe. It doesn't alter the Catolics' faith in Christ.

It shouldn't---although unfortunately, for many years the Vaticans denied its validity. Here is the current position:

Concerning human evolution, the Church has a more definite teaching. It allows for the possibility that man’s body developed from previous biological forms, under God’s guidance, but it insists on the special creation of his soul. Pope Pius XII declared that "the teaching authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions . . . take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter—[but] the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God" (Pius XII, Humani Generis 36). So whether the human body was specially created or developed, we are required to hold as a matter of Catholic faith that the human soul is specially created; it did not evolve, and it is not inherited from our parents, as our bodies are.

The class would only be about 2 minutes long, a minute and a half of which would be for the cigarette.

The class would last as long as Mulder lasts---briefly---he can't bring drugs (Viagra) into the classroom.
