cut 'n' paste
Do something positive, instead of cut 'n' paste.

Read it yourself, learn it, and then post it in your own words. Unless there's no value - nothing positive - in it.

Then, when someone questions you, you got a backup, and guess who has made a fool of him/herself?

cut 'n' paste.

It's like you're tryin' to: 1) get a scoop, 2) start a fight (between two other parties), and you're not takin' a stand, 3) kill time.

Put your time to good use.

Yeah yeah yeah ... I'll paste and you read it if you want. I've read it, learned it, digested it so now it's your turn. I've shared an article of interest with you so what more do you want? You want me to spoon feed you too?? ....

well first off, i guess, is that contrary to the few who have a lot of notarity in these threads for their style, i don't feel the majority of us are here to make a fool out of anybody

but secondly, while there is a measure of truth to your feelings about the cut/paste thing -some posters i'm sure don't read everything they've pasted here to the level that you suggest- i know that i sometimes cut and paste something to these threads before i fully understand it all....and that's one of the reasons i do it -to get other's opinions, or because i feel it's an important enough issue to warrant consideration, whether or not i can be the first one here to voice my certainty about what it all means......and on the other hand, there's enough posters here that do as you say to keep it interesting to me

and compushlep is right....if you don't like someone's style with the cut and paste, you're under no obligation to read the article or the person's opinion....tho if you want to, it might turn into a debate

those two things -choosing what interests me and understanding my own opinions about it- have more to do with my time here than a concern over the proper way to put an idea out for discussion

To start with, the owner of the site discourages cut and paste of entire articles because of copyright issues.
Nothing wrong , however, in posting excerpts with the links pointing to their source.

I see no problem with presenting a reasonable source that provides clarity and back up of a posters position.
I've picked up a lot of interesting facts from some posted links, but most of them have been more of the scientific than the political.

I think it's very positive to link to subject matter that provides clarity. But I do agree that posting 1000's of words in one post can be rather boring. I'd rather go to the site, read up on the subject and follow any leads on other pages of that site.

Hello technaught.
After you've been here a while, you'll come to the realization that many of us post parts of articles to create debate, respond to challenges, and to bolster our opwn points of view.

So long as a link to the source is also posted, there is nothing wrong with copy & paste article and news stories.

I do, however, like so see some comment from the user about what he/she has posted to get an idea why they posted the article.

Might I suggest that you lighten up a bit?

The only time that cutting/pasting articles bothers me is when its used as the sole response in an argument instead of being accompanied by the poster's own words or opinions.

It is irritating to be in a discussion with someone, and one of the responses to my multiple-paragraph post is an article written by Some Guy...As if being an article written by Some Guy makes it definitive.

"I'm not discussing things with Some Guy, I'm discussing things with you! "
