h#ll in a hand basket
We're beggining the end of our species demise. We (North Americans) have become the bloated, excrement filled, pig of our beautiful earth. As many cultures have discovered over our thousands of years of exsistence, moderation is the key to survival. We apparently never listened.
In a time when we aren't told the truth about the food we eat, the wars we wage, the disease we get, the stockpiles of doomsday devices we create, how can we form an opinion any more.
when we're told that a little puke coloured pill will provide us with all the nutrients we need for a day, yet cancer is skyrocketing ,more are people are fat than aren't, and depression is a medical condition. We're told terrorists attacked america and that we must make a retaliation. We were never told about the Billions upon billions of dollars the people in power Personally stand to gain all said and done. We're told oil is going up in price because of supply/demand. Yet we haven't build a refinery in over 20 years?!
PEOPLE WE ARE GETTING MOLESTED!
and we seem to enjoy it.

It starts with our food.
we're constantly mis-lead with packaging, advertising that renders us hungry on a subliminal level, improper(in my opinion) nutritional information, and straight up poisons in our food at an "acceptable level". There is no way a pill can fulfill your nutritional needs (or help at all). We need to eat alot healthier people. We need to be told what vitamins in are foods are fortified, because the majority of them dont do squat. WE need to be told about Trans-fats, Glucose-Fructose(not the fruit sugar the manmade one),
artificial sweeteners, preservatives, pesticides, steroids, cleaners and dyes that we are ingesting. We need to be educated in the activity of all the vitamins and minerals in our body. SOMEONE needs to write the Human body handbook. In my opinion the majority of Depression problems, Weight problems, hormonal problems are almost 100% linked to POOR DIET. Our body is like an engine if you fix the little ticks early on, you won't be having major malfunction down the road. Our biggest issue is that when we hear a tick we take "prescription drugs" so we won't hear it, even if the damage is still being done, when we could have most likely let our body handle it properly, naturally.
In a day and age when we have a planet full of natural food varieties, at our finger tips, We choose to eat the food what we engineered for spacemen, Insta-food, "just add water" or another sugary treat to keep our insulin spiked real high in that "euphoric zone".

It's not our fault, cooperate moneys pay for studies that will over exagerate, or give false pretenses to their own advantage. studies that were meant just to convoluted the whole mess a bunch more(Cow's milk is a great example of this). We have a cliche' people! "you can make numbers say anything" maybe it is true?!

It all comes back to one thing SELF EDUCATION

Cancer is the next blinder we can't seem to take off. Cancer in my mind is what happens when a bodypart( or the whole thing) goes toxic. This can be caused by so many variables:
1.Diet
2.Air quality
3.Water quality
4. stress (conscious, unconscious, hormonal, physical)
5. Harmful materials (cleaners, automotive, building materials, anything made of oil i.e. plastic's)
6. Radiations
7. Cell phones ( and all the other microwave technology that is blasting threw us million's of times every day)
8.the sun

But still we wait for the magical CURE! spending billions, sure we might find one so we can make the phrmacutical trillions more in the future. BUT WHY are we not concentrating more efforts on PREVENTING cancer in the first place thus saving the need for a cure. But i guess that's just too damn simple. I think to stop cancer from becoming the biggest epidemic ever to hit us, many of the "big-players" in the business world would collapse I.e. Coca-cola/pepsi, macdonalds. These company will spend all the money they can in convoluting your mind from thinking their product is evil, as opposed to goin out of business. Once again if we EDUCATED OURSELVES we could make proper lifestyle choices and prevent un-neccesary loses.
However mean and cold hearted it sounds, We do NEED population control, but watching our families die around us because of our own ignorance is RIDICULOUS. WE HAVE THE POWER to change!

And now you goddamned american's started the "WAR ON TERROR", like really do you think that those poor little arab boy's growing up with nothing at all, religiously mis-lead but fundamenticaly right, are worth STARTING A WAR OVER? If we were'nt the global equivalent of a tasmanian devil, exploiting any international soil we can, MAYBE there wouldn't be people willing to take their own lives to kill some of us. But it's not like they want to die, clearly they want the attention. But we never see much about what they want the attention for, so the TERROR will continue. Not to mention the backroom shenanigans in the White House that we were told about BEFORE THEY WERE GOING TO HAPPEN(remember fahrenheit 9/11????). Which a short time ago in history would have gotten any leader of a country pillaged and hung. The American people seem not to even care, sure the "Approval rating" is probably down but the poor taxpayers are being robbed blind, and once they see it'll be far too late to change. IN my mind Democracy does not work in a country where the majority of people think CNN is real news and the voters can be led by a carrot on a stick.

Why in the hell did we let this happen?????
ARE WE GOING TO FIX IT??????
or is it too late

I guess that's just my opinion

Nice rant, Kenzington. I definately agree on this portion of it.

You might be new to forums and do not know this but please remove your email address from your post (hit "edit" at the bottom of the box your words are in) or else you will get all kinds of junkmail in your personal email.

welcome to TSG.

Selected prognostications from the religious community

Quote:
ca. 2800 BC According to Isaac Asimov's Book of Facts (1979), an Assyrian clay tablet dating to approximately 2800 BC was unearthed bearing the words "Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end. Bribery and corruption are common." This is one of the earliest examples of the perception of moral decay in society being interpreted as a sign of the imminent end.

1284 Pope Innocent III expected the Second Coming to take place in 1284, 666 years after the rise of Islam. (Schwartz p.181)

1290 Followers of Joachim of Fiore (the Joachites) rescheduled the End to 1290 when his 1260 prophecy failed. (McIver #58)

May 18, 1910 Many people believed the arrival of Halley's Comet would spell the end of the world. Some thought that cyanide gas from the comet's tail would poison the Earth's atmosphere. In Germany, one could buy postcards depicting apocalyptic scenes bearing the caption, "End of the World on May 18". Con artists took advantage of people's fears by selling "comet pills" to make people immune to the toxins...or so they claimed. (Weber p.196-198, Abanes p.339)

Fall 1982 In the late '70s, Pat Robertson predicted the end of the world would occur in the fall of 1982. "I guarantee you by the end of 1982 there is going to be a judgment on the world," he said in a May, 1980 broadcast of the 700 Club. (Boyer p.138)

A few scientific scenarios

Quote:
Lord Kelvin startled us not long ago by affirming that there was only oxygen in the atmosphere sufficient to last mankind for some 300 years, and that the world was doomed to die of suffocation. Everyone knows that in an atmosphere devoid of oxygen no animal being can live for long. Put a mouse under an air-tight glass containing some burning substance that exhausts the oxygen, and it will be speedily suffocated. Thus will it be (so says Lord Kelvin) with man, who is himself lighting the fires for the suffocation of his progeny.

On an average it requires three tons of oxygen to consume one ton of fuel, and the oxygen that exists in our atmosphere is practically all the supply available for the purpose. As shown by the barometer the average weight of the air is 14.9 pounds to the square inch, which gives a total weight for the earth of 1,020,000,000,000 tons of oxygen. At the rate of three tons of oxygen to one ton of fuel, the weight of fuel which can be consumed by this oxygen is 340,000,000,000 tons.

Now to see how the oxygen can keep pace with the fuel. The whole world consumes about 600,000,000 tons of coal a year, and to this must be added the consumption of oxygen by wood and other vegetable substances which raises the equivalent coal consumption of the world to not less than 1,000,000,000 tons a year.

Thus, even at the present rate of fuel consumption there is only oxygen to last 340 years, and long before this time the atmosphere would have become so vitiated with carbonic acid gas, and so weakened in oxygen, that either we should have to emigrate to some other sphere, or else give up the habit of breathing altogether.
Quote:
Reference has been made to the possible annihilation of our planet by some dire catastrophe. One of the supporters of this theory is Professor Falb, a well-known astronomer, who prophesied the destruction of the world on November 13th, 1899, through collision with a comet known as Biela's. On the 29th of October, 1899, came a telegram from Santiago, Chili, announcing that Biela's comet had been observed from there and was visible to the naked eye. This announcement following on Prof. Falb's prophecy actually caused no little dismay among the poorer classes of the Continental peasantry, though in England and America little alarm was felt. Needless to state, the 13th of November came and went without the occurrence of any untoward event.
Quote:
Lastly, the extinction of the human race by starvation or by thirst may be considered. Sir William Crookes recently startled civilised nations by affirming that in 1931--just thirty-one years from this present year of grace 1900--there will not be enough wheat to supply the needs of the bread eaters of the world. The failure of our food supply is a calamity too awful to contemplate, and the prospect of mankind slowly dying from starvation is calculated to plunge into the depths of despair the cheeriest optimist that ever lived.

And, finally, doom and gloom from political views

Quote:
Certainly a sense of disillusionment and cynicism became pronounced, with Nihilism growing in popularity. This disillusionment towards humanity found a cultural climax with the Dadaist artistic movement. Many people believed that the war heralded the end of the world as they had known it, including the collapse of capitalism and imperialism. Communist and socialist movements around the world drew strength from this theory and enjoyed a level of popularity they had never known before. These feelings were most pronounced in areas directly or particularly harshly affected by the war, especially within Europe.

There is hope for those of the Christian Faith here

If the legacy you want to pass on to the next generation is that of fear, paranoia and fatalism then please keep on your current path, otherwise please follow this advice found on an Archbishop's tombstone:

Quote:
I tried to change the world but never succeeded.
I tried to change my country but never succeeded.
I tried to change by town but never succeeded.
I tried to change by congregation but never succeeded.
Perhaps I should have tried to change myself.

Kenzington, this is a conversation we should all engage in. A good start...
I've said before that we're all in this together, and the earth ain't really that big.
But, as much as we should listen, you should listen. We have to find common ground
in order resolve things.

Hey Chicon, have you tried Malboge?

Quote:
Hence the author created Malbolge. It borrows from machine, BrainFizz,
and tri-INTERCAL, but put together in a unique way. It was designed to
be difficult to use, and so it is. It is designed to be
incomprehensible, and so it is.

So far, no Malbolge programs have been written. Thus, we cannot give an
example.

"Malbolge" is the name of Dante's Eighth Circle of Hell, in which
practitioners of deception (seducers, flatterers, simonists, thieves,
hypocrites, and so on) spend eternity.
Please note there have been at least 5 programs written in this language so far, such as this one

Quote:
incidentally, i've come to hate malbolge. no doubt that was the author's intention (i'm not sure if it was also their intention to write an interpreter whose results can be unpredicatble because of memory access errors, but it adds to the general flavour - grrr.....).
