Solved: drinking and driving
i am going to get crucified, but....that funny sign "don't drink and drive" hmmm, what pray tell does that mean? in indiana there is a "no tolerance policy". Hubby has always (i did in my 20s---two life times ago) drank and drove; sometimes after having 3 beers sometimes more but never as we would call "sloshed". it hit me one day..the consequences whether minor/major..worst losing his 30 year job at comcast, lose of health insurance, etc. in a somewhat selfish thought..no medication for my chemical imbalance ($400/month) and MS ($1,800/month)..he's healthy as a horse..life would not be so fun..so dispite his belief that he could drink 3 beers and when he gets pulled over, the cops would let him go..we went to the police station..they said no tolerance, with one beer (supposedly .01 level) the truck gets impounded, more at .03+ level, he goes to jail (no truck and attorney) .03-.08 he loses his job...he said he would still go out that night and "take his chances"..so..gave the police the description of our car, license number and left. he went balastic, saying if he got pulled over it was my fault if any of the above happened..how could i do that! IF I hadnt given them the info and IF he got pulled over at anytime..hmmm. I drove him to the bar and a designated driver brought him home..so am i a major *****, did i insult his "manhood"/treating him like a child? should i drop it and let him go and drink and drive?

Ask that question to a mother who has lost their child to a drunk driver who didn't think he was impaired.

Ask that question of the driver who decapitates your daughter, Inky, with his/her car because his/her reaction times were impaired on the road by just a couple of beers.

First offense DWI need to be taken seriously. The next one killed could be yours.

Lan, I'm not condoning drink-driving in any way, it's just -- in indiana there is a "no tolerance policy" -- so presumably different states have different levels. How is that sensible?

Here's a chart of state by state regs.
Indiana looks the same as most, IMO

http://www.ohsinc.com/drunk_driving_...mits_CHART.htm

As of 2004, there is no forfeiture of the vehicle.
BAC is listed as .08 as are most states.

I did find this general footnote, but it implies all states

4In Indiana, the open container restriction only applies if the driver has a BAC of 0.04.

I am not arguing It just seems cop said differnt.

I say he was acting like a child. Better to be safe than sorry!

Point taken. Some people shouldn't drive even when they're sober.

You didn't tell him he couldn't drink, you asked him not to drink and drive for the families sake. He could get a driver or call a cab. As poochee said he is acting childish.

Stick to your guns for the family's sake.

Drink driving? Hmmm - not a good idea at all! I've walked home after a party and that can be something of an adventure (although you always find your way home somehow - not sure how - but you do). It's gotta be said that there is no chance in the world you should drive a vehicle when you might have been - erm - carousing what so ever. You can't even see straight let alone navigate a vehicle. It's staggering (ahem) but some people do - and they are very very stupid!

inky.

Not intended to sound or be pompous, but personally I would say from what you said, that your spouse is pyschologically unfit to drive, drinking or not.

A car or truck is a lethal weapon.

We all have a responsibility to other people, primarily, not just ourselves.

Delighted he is taking counselling: I would say he needs it urgently.
