Unhappy First Time I’ve Ever Seen One…..
I was at the market at 6 pm last night to pick up Meow Mix for the damn cats.... And for the first time,up close, I saw a a FULLY clothed black Muslim women, head to toe all covered, that face covering looks like a small black square TV screen. the only flesh I saw were her hands, heck I don’t even know if its a female in there. She was following, more like shuffling, a big 6 foot bearded guy in all white bathrobe and wearing a towel cap.... After what happened yesterday in GB, I thought it took a lot of guts to go out in public dressed like that.
Somehow I felt a little hatred towards them…Thats normal.... right???

I would hope they appreciate how tolerant most people are in this country i.e not to pronounce quilt by association.

IMHO its not normal... Being muslim as a religion isn't bad. It's the fanatics and the people who think theirs is the only true religion and will do anything to propogate this idae that is bad.

I have seen their culture in the garb many times but I never have thought twice about it as this is their choice. My only concern is how these coverings make it hard for identification purposes (E.G. the woman in florida who refused to get her drivers license picture taken with her outfit off - http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIP...06/asb.00.html )

But then the question comes into play when is too much covering a concern? Does a guy in a jacket, with a hat and glasses and a face warmer all of a sudden fall into the same catergory?

Why are some Muslim women covered? Why not men? The answer pretty much clarifies the enormous gap between modernity and certain aspects of Islam.

But every damn day?

Granted I dont know much about their religion and I dont wanna know...but to be totally covered in black and following the guy 3 feet behind him is totally weird.
Ive always believe that if you live in the U.S., learn to speak English.
Looks like now im going to have to demand them to dress like a normal U.S. person too.
i mean come on....totally covered head to foot, every damn day???
Where's women Lib when we really need it.

Its a function of why you wear the covering. In your example its to protect oneself from the elements. In the case of a Muslim woman in a burka---well I need not go further.

Yes, Islam in many of its forms and practices is sexist as well as racist, intolerant, etc etc etc...American Liberalism tends to ignore the serious faults of the causes it supports, however. Thats why you will never hear a liberal feminist point these things out about Islam.

Slightly off topic...But a few years ago I saw my first Amish woman in public. I live in Wisconsin so there are quite a few Amish communities around. I was walking around a "Farm and Fleet" store and rounded the corner to run into this woman wearing this getup that made her look like she came straight out of a thanksgiving pilgrim story. Simple black shoes, long black dress, simple white bonnet. It was an interesting culture clash.

One thing you should consider --whats under all those clothes!.
Now if I seen her I would just think --another religious nut--UNLESS she asked me to PULL HER FINGER! .
I would hate that. >f

Clothing worn by a tourist from any country is the leaste threatening thing I can think of, but after several generations in any country any group should speak the language with little or no accent and conform to the social skills of the place they live.

Now lets look at 40 year old rappers with pants crotch around their knees and chains dangling from their pockets-now that scares me.
