Bill Frist gives up on Afghanistan?
http://www.debka.com/headline.php?hid=3343

Israeli concerns raised by US Senate Majority leader Bill Frist’s advice to bring Taliban into Afghan government

Quote:
October 3, 2006, 11:38 AM (GMT+02:00)

During a visit to a US-Romanian base, Frist said the Taliban are too numerous and have too much popular support to be defeated militarily. He added the decision to ask Taliban to join the government was up to Afghan president Hamid Karzai, who has just returned from a White House summit. There was no immediate response from the presidential palace in Kabul.

DEBKAfile: The Frist statement represents a complete turnabout by the Bush administration on the war against terror, with grave applications for US Middle East policies in relation to Iraq, Lebanon and Israel, as well as the rampant Hizballah and Hamas terrorist groups and their state sponsors.

Frist added the 20,000 US troops in Afghanistan were still needed to support NATO which is assuming control of the military campaign. Afghanistan is suffering an upsurge of terrorism. In the southern province of Helmand, five civilians were killed when their vehicle in a mine Tuesday after a violent Monday in which a suicide bomber blew himself up near a NATO convoy in Kabul, wounded three soldiers and 3 civilians.

Ahhh.......Liberal appeasement

I read that----It is amazing that it got so little play in the media. I guess that the page scandal had something to do with it. When Bill Frist says that, then you know, that we have a big problem.

Every U.S. Military family that lost a family member in Afghanistan should be totally outraged by Frist's statement.

Why is that---would you prefer that Frist create a fantasy world in order to make you feel better? I admire the man for dealing with reality rather then the created reality of the Bush administration.

Every U.S, miliary family that hasn't lost a family member in Afghanistan --YET -- should at least think about the Frist statement--as well as all citizens.
The truth is what is important --not outrage over a statement that should be considered.
The wisdom and possibility of the success of our military operation in Afghanistan is most important. More important that the grief for those already fallen.
If I lost a loved one there , I would not risk yours because of my grief.
Its no secret--I want to see withdrawal from Iraq , but I really haven't a strong opinion on Afghanistan--lack of facts. Thats why Frist statements are important .
We should all have a idea of the situation , and possibilties. >f
