What's So Bad About Democrats?
I've been seeing more and more about people disliking Democrats...so...give me the real reasons why in a nutshell!

Being apolitical I can give you a pretty unbiased view, that's definitely a two-way street. Hopefully it will continue and people will look into other parties. Probably the single biggest problem in the US politics is that two parties control the country, we need more diversity.

bomb: It's not meant to be a Dem bashing thread! I'd like to see some serious answers instead of bashing! After all...the Democrats could be in power some day soon!

Considering that statement maybe your thread title should be "What's so bad about politicians." On one hand you're suggesting that people dislike Democrats and on the other you're suggesting they could be in power soon.

BTW' I'll agree with that, I think the Replublicans are on the way out. That is at least until enough people get fed up with their bulls*** when the Republicans will come back in power..... round and round it goes.....

Confusing eh! I'm just curious why people dislike the Democrats...and how they'll feel if the Dems do get more control than the Republicans!

To tell you the truth...I'm afraid to vote for anyone running in 2008!

Do you actually believe that tho'? I mean, does it make any difference who's "in power" on paper? The basic premise of a very popular 80s sitcom here -- "Yes, Prime Minister" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yes_Prime_Minister , which BTW Thatcher loved) -- was that whichever side was "in power", the "administration" would continue to run the country regardless (i.e. tie everything up with bureaucracy so that things carried on as they were).

EDIT: Just call me an old cynic.

I'd like to see AMERICANS in power....not called Republicans...not called Democrats....but a group of AMERICANS who care more about the citizens of the U.S. than party lines!

(OK, this may be a complete non-seq but what the heck, it's been in my head for ages, so ...)

Ppl are always "arguing" in here, agreed? And nothing ever gets resolved, agreed? So, why do it?

OK, in a previous life I was a Trades Union official. ("Management", BTW, loved to characterise "my type" as "activists" -- and FWIW, as a desk jockey I was particularly disliked because "activism" was normally "reserved for" shop-floor workers ("bad form", so to speak)).

Anyway, often issues would come up where management wouldn't entertain "us". And of course sometimes that was done purely as a way of "dealing" with things. And ultimately that would lead to heated debates between "activists" over what to do about it.

Now (here comes the point -- possibly ), a senior official once said to me about such situations:

"Why do we fight among ourselves? Because we can".

So, I'm suggesting that in a way CivDeb is a bit like that. Maybe the extent to which ppl slag each other off here is an indication of their frustration that at the end of the day there's very little any of us ordinary folk can really do that might make a difference to the way things actually are. But at the end of the day, you gotta do something, right?

rgds,
bomb

Agreed -- I too am of the opinion that party politics is a CWOT.They're supposed to be our "servants", not the servants of their own interests.

Good morning

I'd like to see the general public take half the interest in politics and domestic/world events that this forum displays.
Better leadership would be the obvious result from both parties.

I'd say the same could be said for both parties. Congress is at a 24% approval rating.
Republicans are vilified on the war and now moral/ethics issues, Democrats are vilified for the lack of war support and past ehtical/moral issues.
Neither seems to focus on problem solving with out creating worse problems.
