Republican Congress: Corruption, Class War, and Business as Usual
http://www.politicalaffairs.net/arti...ew/1635/1/112/

Congressional Republicans are worried, and they should be. Under their leadership, say the polls, Congress' approval rating couldn't fall much lower. Meanwhile, congressional Democrats are viewed more and more has having an agenda that is closer to the interests of the majority of the people. While one may poke holes is this conclusion, all the numbers point to the possibility of an electoral shift in the 2006 election.

The main reason for the shift in opinion and growing momentum for congressional Democrats is that the Republicans’ congressional record for this past session is marked by dismal failures, hastily covered up corruption and vicious class war attacks on working families. In the past few years, the Republicans have been more interested in approving without debate the agenda of the President, over the interests of their constituents and working people in general.

Instead of fulfilling their Constitutional duty of "checking" the power of the presidency, the Republican-dominated Congress has been a rubber stamp. The war in Iraq based on lies is the most tragic result. But trade, budget, and environmental policies that benefit only a handful of corporations at the expense of most working families is another.

or are these commies lying?

I hope steppenwolf does not mind I posted the following to his thread.

I was going to post it in my tread about Jack Abramoff, (Good friend of President Bush.) But I am not certain this new breaking story of GOP lobbyist corruption is tied to that old, but yet on-going GOP lobbyist corruption.

Then, I considered posting it in the Mark Foley thread, (former U.S. member of congress, R-FL allowed to continue going after boy pages as GOP leadership ignored the situation.)

I found this thread and thought it most appropriate here.

Although there is no sex in this, FBI raids are pretty sexy.

Especially when the house raided is the daughter, (lobbyist) of a member of Congress, and a committee chair, (GOP Leadership) at that.

Amid widespread panic in the Republican establishment about the coming midterm elections, there are two people whose confidence about GOP prospects strikes even their closest allies as almost inexplicably upbeat: President Bush and his top political adviser, Karl Rove ...

You gotta admit they got confidence ! We do not have that many days to find out .

LOL! This is priceless. Can someone point to the "failures?" We have 4.5 unemployment, taxes are lower for everyone, the economy is booming, we've haven't been attacked since 9/11--the truth is things couldn't be better. However you Moronic liberals reality is based entirely on liberal rags. The statistic show that about 60% of Americans consider themselves conservative or somewhat conservative while 34% consider themselves liberal.

There is a lot of rhetoric, but I'd like to see the facts behind the "failures" (and no editorials from the NY Times--let's see some facts!).

Clueless liberals!

Actually, that's not true - compushlep pointed out to me in another thread that there were 7 American citizens(the sources I found didn't state if they were soldiers or not) murdered in a night-club bombing in Bali in 2002 ... of course, CS's source made it seem like it was 200 Americans, but you know what that's about.

7 American citizens killed - If Clinton was in office, he'd think that a good reason to turn tail and run. Oops, I mean ... "Consider what the rest of the world thinks of us"

FBI raids home of congressman's daughter
POSTED: 5:06 p.m. EDT, October 16, 2006

MEDIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- The FBI raided the homes of Rep. Curt Weldon's daughter and a close friend Monday as it investigates whether the congressman improperly helped the pair win lobbying and consulting contracts.

Agents searched four locations in the Philadelphia area and two in Jacksonville, Florida, said Debbie Weierman, an FBI spokeswoman in Washington. The congressman's home and his offices were not among the locations searched, she said.

Earlier Monday, Weldon called the investigation politically motivated and called the timing suspect. The Republican, who is locked in a tight re-election bid and has clashed with the Bush administration, denied wrongdoing and said he gave his daughter no special help. (Watch how the recent scandals have put the GOP under greater scrutiny -- 1:31)

"What I find ironic, if there is an investigation, is that no one would tell me until three weeks before the election," Weldon said at an appearance in Media. "This incident was 2½ years ago."

Weierman confirmed that the six raids included Karen Weldon's home in Philadelphia; the Springfield home of Charles Sexton, her business partner and the congressman's close friend; and the office of their company, Solutions North America, in Media.

Federal investigators are looking into whether Weldon used his influence to help the company secure lobbying contracts worth $1 million from foreign clients, two people familiar with the inquiry told The Associated Press

Weldon said his daughter received no special consideration because of him.

"I've never helped my daughter get anything. My kids are qualified on their own," Weldon said.

The congressman also raised questions about the need for a Justice Department investigation, noting that the House Ethics Committee looked into his daughter's contracts soon after The Los Angeles Times reported on them in February 2004. He said he has cooperated fully, turning over 150 pages of documents and answering the committee's questions.

In Florida, an office and a residence in Jacksonville were searched, said FBI spokesman Jeff Westcott. It was not immediately clear how those locations were related to the case, but a law enforcement official in Washington said the inquiry could involve people beyond Weldon, his daughter and Sexton.

I have noticed that in the lead up to elections since 2000, the outcome is always more favorable to Republicans than is predicted by pundits or than you might think from what the media tells you. I think that there is a significant element of wishful thinking in the reporting by the print and broadcast media. Time will tell.

You know what gets me is what shameless hypocrites the liberals are. Here is California, Arnold's opponent was whining (surrounded by all his union supporters! ) because Arnold was asked on the Jay Leno show and he thought he should as well to be "fair"--in fact, he's trying to say it violates the campaign laws.

Well, the Democrats get constant free promotion by the MSM--in fact, if it wasn't for the MSM violating both journalistic ethics as well as the law (yes, there support of Democrats violates the campaign reform laws), Republicans would have a 2 to 1 margin in offices thoroughou the country because conservatives outnumber liberals about 2 to 1. The problem is we have a lot of stupid people who don't know how to look past the headlines. If everyone was as knowledgeable as me, there would never be another liberal elected. Ignorance and gullibility are the best friends of the liberal!
