To complete Nature's grand design. It must occur before the galaxy Andromeda collides with our galaxy, the Milky Way in some single-digit billions of years (2-3?). Andromeda is racing toward our galaxy at about 750,000 mph. Collision is inescapable. This time period occurs before our own Sun collapses, i.e. about 6 billion years in the future, if the galaxies do not collide which is not going to happen - they will consume each other. The question is what will happen to Earth?

Will humankind survive that long? Sealife is currently under stress that may see all of the seafood humankind consumes be depleted by about 2050. From there is life on Earth a downward spiral?

Will humankind spread out into the stars? Will humandkind discover all of the secrets of Nature? What will humankind do with the knowledge of the Universe?

Ultimately, since we are all elemental, our atoms and molecules will be recycled back into other forms of matter or energy for the Universe to continue. The ultimate purpose of life is to either fuel the Universe or survive extinction and continue...

In the above scenarios, humankind's only redeeming value is its knowledge (and hopefully its combined wisdom) and its DNA (along with DNA of all known lifeforms here on Earth) which if humankind's demise becomes imminent - it would behove us to broadcast our DNA and current knowledge/wisdom out into the Universe in the hope that somewhere else it could be used wisely for the continuation of the Universe. Perhaps in our wisdom, we would be able to regulate its use by testing its finders, and be able to release graduated levels of knowledge based on level of understanding the consequences of its use, or block access where usage is suspect, or accelerate understanding where the ethical use of the knowledge is not in question.

At the very least, then our existence will not have been in vain.
