California Investigating Voting Machine’s Undetectable Vote-Delete Function

Quote:
California is conducting a months-long investigation in the state’s electronic voting systems after reports of serious flaws — including registered users’ ability to delete votes without even leaving an electronic trail.

The investigation is examining how the system’s internal audit logs actually work and whether audit records can be easily altered or deleted, according to Secretary of State Debra Bowen.

Open Source Voting-System Code Ready for Public Review.

Quote:
A group working to produce an open and transparent voting system to replace current proprietary systems has published its first batches of code for public review.

The Open Source Digital Voting Foundation (OSDV) announced the availability of source code for its prototype election system Wednesday night at a panel discussion that included Mitch Kapor, creator of Lotus 1-2-3 and co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation; California Secretary of State Debra Bowen; Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder Dean Logan; and Heather Smith, director of Rock the Vote.

In Industry First, Voting Machine Company to Publish Source Code.

Sequoia Voting Systems plans to publicly release the source code for its new optical scan voting system, the company announced Tuesday — a remarkable reversal for a voting machine maker long criticized for resisting public examination of its proprietary systems.

Safer swiping while voting and globetrotting.

Since 2007, every new U.S. passport has been outfitted with a computer chip. Embedded in the back cover of the passport, the "e-passport" contains biometric data, electronic fingerprints and pictures of the holder, and a wireless radio frequency identification (RFID) transmitter.

E-voting is discussed at the end of the article.
