Personally, I think that the problem with electronic voting is simply that the more complex any system is, the fewer understand how it works: and could actually audit results and the system.

At least with the manual system, a recount, whilst tiresome is possible, by normal people again and again, and again.

After all, in this age of political integrity in which we currently live .................................

Thank you for sharing you DIY instructions on how you make your Halloween masks, Mulder. I must say it will be a big improvement for you.

Fail to see the relevance to this thread, however?

Whenever Mulder doesn't want to deal with a subject, he cut and pastes his tin foil hat cartoon. He is essentially telling everyone that the facts are pretty powerful so rather then deal with them, he attacks the person making the claims. In this case, he doesn't want to talk about voting machines that don't leave a paper trails. Another thing about Mulder that I find interesting is that he accepts pretty much everything the government tells him, as long as they don't increase taxes. He trusts power, and that isn't a very conservative thing!

Does that mean he wears the tin hat to bed, or does he take it off at night?

It does not matter one iota what sort of ballots or voting apparatus is used. Whenever a Democrat loses an election, especially a close one, the Democrats will always claim they lost because votes were not counted, primarily in predominantly black neighborhoods. Then they will claim, as they always do, that it is due to Republican dirty tricks and Republican racism.

It was the fiasco in Florida precipitated by Democratic sore losers that gave new impetus to efforts to move away from physical ballots. Ironically, the punch card ballots probably give the the best balance of efficiency and accuracy of all available voting formats, as well as a physical record that can be recounted. To the extent that there can be errors in punch card voting, the errors are probably proportionately distributed across party lines, so errors are unlikely to change results.

Again, dont make this a political issue. This is an issue that can effect both democrats and republicans. At the very foundation of the democracy is the vote, and the sanctity of the vote. When you can't audit an election, you have major problems. There is absolutely on reason that our elections can't be above aboard and auditible.

Diebold Quietly Repaired Voting Machines
http://www.physorg.com/news81175082.html

(AP) -- Diebold Election Systems quietly replaced flawed components in several thousand Maryland voting machines in 2005 to fix a "screen-freeze" problem the company had discovered three years earlier, according to published reports Thursday.

State Board of Elections Chairman Gilles W. Burger said Diebold's failure to fully inform board members of the repairs at the time raises questions about whether the company violated its state contracts.

If the democrats win, we will know that the machine was hacked.

What a crock! There's NOTHING WRONG WITH THE DAMN MACHINES!!! This is more tinfoil hat liberal nonsense. If Republicans had lost the Presidential election, none of this would even have come up. Recounts in 2000 proved Democrats lost and they lost in 2004--get over it man--its getting silly at this point.
