Harold Ford ad is it racist ?
In the ad, a young white actress playing the stereotype of a “dumb blonde” talks about meeting Ford, a 36-year-old bachelor who is black, “at the Playboy party.” At the end of the ad, she winks and says to the camera, “Harold — call me."

The other part of the ad where they say he is in bed with porn producers is more damaging ,but the Dems are instead pulling the race card .

I think it is funny. He went to a Superball party in Jacksonville , Florida that had Playboy bunnies ,so he should have known they would use it right ?
What is racist is the old ad with the chains the NAACP used that time.

It is kind of sleazy but it is not racist .I laughed like hell when I saw it . The redneck with the guns was funny and I am a NRA member . People need to lighten up about it being racist in my opinion.

I'd agree to 'sleazy' but not racist.

Watching the ad several times, it was funny
Not knowing Ford or his politics, I'd say the other points in the ad are harder hitting.

Yea you have a stereotype of a dumb blond and a Southern redneck with guns .The love was spread all around . The porn dude's implication was the worst. It was creative though and hilarious.

By the way thanks for putting up link Stoner !

Was the blonde a reference to him taking money from porn producers? Anyhow, among the sleazier commercials but not racist.

I did see it--Playboy=Porn (to some people)=Ford----Remember, Tennessee is a conservative state with a large number of religious people in it.

He went to the Playboy party .I do not blame him I would too but ,I am not running for Senate! They say he took money from porn producers it is not clear they mean Playboy .Hell , Playboy is still sold at US Army service Canteens.
You are probably right about that connection I forget Playboy did movies but ,I think it is one of the funniest ads I have seen.

There is nothing more racist than a political ad which juxtaposes white women with black men, and even one of the political spinners for the Republicans called it over the top on one of this morning's TV programs.

American polical campaigns have been rift with sleazy ads for a long, long time.

Yes, it is racist - not funny.

Well of course, historically, one of the racists chief worries was the co-mingling of blood. There were many blacks lynched because they had the audacity to look at a white woman. There is something called the Bradley effect---named after Bradley the Mayor of LA who appeared to be ahead in most polls for the governorship but lost to Deukmejian----Some political scientists believe that although people said they had no trouble voting for a black man, when they got into the polling booth they couldn't pull the lever.

Again, this is a distasteful ad, and I would sure love to here from the person who produced it---Just want to know what he was thinking---what if any subliminal buttons he was trying to push.

Juxtaposing white women w/black men = the utmost in racism? I saw it simply as an attempt to portray Mr Ford as a ne'er-do-well. To quote one of the comments, "Some people really need to get a grip. Some people really need to stop being so self-righteous and over-sensitive and some people really need to stop seeing the boogey man around every corner."

So, it's neither racist nor funny, IMO. I did find it strange that an ad by the Republicans said absolutely nothing about the Republicans -- unless of course, it did.

It actually did--the usual Rovian scare tactics---It says that the Ford (ie. the Democrats) would take away their guns, raise their taxes etc.
