What's your favorite..?
The world is full of questions like that. What's your favorite movie? Book? Actor? Song? Band? Artist? On and on and on. I think it's ridiculous. I don't have a favorite anything. The way I see it, asking someone which movie is their favorite is like saying, if you had to destroy every movie in the world except one, which one would you keep? I can't honestly answer that. I like all kinds of different movies for all kinds of different reasons, and not a single one really stands out as "The Favorite."

So I end up picking a random one, but everyone thinks it really is my favorite movie, and then they start asking "But don't you like..?"

Sigh

While I agree in a sense -- I have different favourite movies depending on my mood -- sounds to me like you have a practically terminal case of indecision. You're not female by any chance?

But you must be able to ID a favourite something -- how about "favourite free tech support site"?

erick ~ perhaps you don't like being placed on the spur of the moment...but what you describe, you actually do all the time. you discriminate multiple times a day on a variety of subjects. Then there are those that stand beyond the rest...not that you would save it from the destruction of the rest, but that it excels where some don't -- and most often evolve.

That's not really what I meant... of course some are better than others... what I'm saying is that there isn't a single one that I'd pick over the rest. The things I like, I like for different reasons. I can't say one thing is better than the rest, period, because that would depend on what you were judging it by.

Yowsers! It's been a while since you've been banned, hasn't it?

The thread starter seems like an intelligent person, if that's who you were referring to.

That is my opinion on what the "your favorite" questions are.

Answer the question of this thread

As my tastes and perceptions have evolved since my birth, my favourite ones have changed too. Favourite is a temporary quality which is fading with the appearance of novelties.

When you use the phrase "that idiot" you are tempting those who don't like you to hit the "report" button.

In the closed Islam thread, linsky called someone a moron and I asked whether the new, stricter standards have been relaxed. A mod answered that they have not.

I would guess that it's ok to call someone's post idiotic, but not to call a person that. Or even to make a post that could be misinterpreted by someone to say that.

But did you still have only one favorite at the time?

Yeah, I personally think a lot of my old favorite things were completely stupid! I question the judgement of the younger me.
