Algerbra, and the dissemination of Asian inventions like gunpowder, paper etc. They haven't done much since their so-called Golden Age. When you are mired in your religion, and value faith of reason, you don't contribute much.

Have you read much about how and why the end of that Golden Age took place?

I was being serious. I've read an article about that which gave an introduction to the topic of how the culture of the religion changed from one that values science and seeks God in nature(and therefore puts scientific inquiry on a pedestal) to one that thinks all of the inner-workings of nature can be explained by the Koran.

If Linsky's read more about that, I'd be curious to seehis sources.

The Islamic Golden Age covered approximately the period between 750-1400 AD. Wikepedia has some pretty good sources as external links. My main information on the period comes from the A History of the Arab Peoples by Hourani. He is one of the better scholars out there.

There is also a History Channel (I think) called the history of one -- that goes through some of the Arabic numbering system.

LOL---why is it that Muslims get so defensive when someone points out that they haven't contributed much to humanity over the last 600 years? Canndy, who is actually very funny, claims that the reason they haven't contributed is that they don't practice Islam correctly! Thats the same reason he gives for the bloodbath that is taking place between Shia and Sunni in Iraq!

Tell us Canndy, why is it that Muslims don't practice Islam correctly? What the heck is going on?

Meanwhile, we have Empire starting a thread about Quarnic miracles where he makes some insane claim about iron. Here is a modern, moderate Muslim who is so deeply involved in his religion that he really beleives that Iron came from Allah! Having read that, is there any doubt that Muslims are stuck in the quagmire of their faith and are willing to ignore reason?
