Scientists have found that the atmosphere consists of several layers. The layers differ in such physical properties as pressure and the types of gasses. The layer of the atmosphere closest to Earth is called the TROPOSPHERE. It contains about 90% of the total mass of the atmosphere. The layer above the troposphere is called the STRATOSPHERE. The OZONE LAYER is the part of the stratosphere where absorption of ultraviolet rays occurs. The layer above the stratosphere is called the MESOSPHERE. The THERMOSPHERE lies above the mesosphere. The ionized gases form a layer within the thermosphere called the IONOSPHERE. The outermost part of Earth's atmosphere extends from about 480 km out to 960 km. This part is called the EXOSPHERE. (Carolyn Sheets, Robert Gardner, Samuel F. Howe; General Science, Allyn and Bacon Inc. Newton, Massachusetts, 1985, s. 319-322)

You could also include the thermopause for #8 if you wanted to warp the number to fit your religion!

BTW, way to cite a paper written in 1985.

We can build on it, but we shouldnt look back to his papers for our information if there are thousands of more updated sources that potentially include recent developments in the subject.

The fact is that anyone could say there are 5-8 levels of the atmosphere and put up a picture on their site if they wanted it to fit their religion. For example, i could make up a picture of 8 layers of the atmosphere to confirm the great prophecy by the Giant Teapot that rules the universe. Seven is used in tons of applications in religion, and there is no reason to suspect, assuming the Quran said 7 layers of earth and sky and that there 7 layers of each, that this must prove that Allah or some great force exists. Who wrote the Quran? Maybe they guessed?

7 is also the 'perfect number' in the Bible, or the 'day of rest.'

I must ask this here...

Is Muslim completely seperate religion from Christianity? I keep thinking they share the same 1/2 but that is Islam? Shows how much i care.

All relegions build off some basic structure, there are a list of things that you can and can't do and a list of things you should do to ensure your spiritual elightenment.

The root of all religion is based on ethical and moral beliefs, and to make people feel like they are here for some divine purpose, and to spread the word of there god to the non believers.

The best is asking a person of faith if they believe in aliens or ghosts. 9/10 will come back and say no, because god doesn't say they exist, but where does it say anywhere that god exists ? They have faith in there god to believe enough he exists, but because they can't prove aliens or ghosts exist they are non believers ... kinda contradicting

9/10? In Islam we believe that whatever exists is created by God. There might be life in every single galaxy out there, we don't know. We can't just deny it. We (Muslims) believe in everything that God has created, seen or unseen. Aliens..etc MAY be the unseen...or the seen ()

The seven firmaments and earth...
7 layers of our atmosphere
troposphere
stratosphere
ozone layer
mesosphere
thermosphere
ionosphere
exosphere

7 layers that make up EARTH
crust
lithosphere
upper mantle
astenoshpere
lower mantle
outer core
inner core

Atmosphere:
http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/lin....html&edu=elem
Ionosphere and Ozone are not recognized as seperate layers.
The above site includes the ionosphere with the thermosphere and this site ( http://csep10.phys.utk.edu/astr161/l...tmosphere.html ) includes the ozone with the stratosphere

Earth:
http://library.thinkquest.org/28327/..._of_earth.html
Crust
Upper mantle
Transition region
Lower mantle
D'' layer
Outer core
Inner core

But I've seen less listed
http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/dynamic/inside.html
http://scign.jpl.nasa.gov/learn/plate1.htm
(even our government can't make up it's mind

But it only takes one error to be incorrect
And that definitely was the layers of the atmosphere
5, not 7....that's 2 mistakes

We all know that the moon is made of cheese. Well, one day the Giant Teapot wanted to make some cheese tea...
