As to your original statement " ... approached with scientific language that inspires fear" one hardly has to be a scientist to fool people with anything, nevermind 'fear'. Just ask P.T. Barnum who purportedly said that thing about suckers' birth rate
Think about this statement, or say it out loud if you feel like it: "I don't know anything about science, so given the choice of trusting 99.9% or 0.1% of the experts, I'll go with the 0.1%".
Granted of course that the percentage of expert Chicken Littles could be adjusted downwards slightly, to say maybe 95% ... I don't have the exact breakdown handy at the moment, but I don't want to alter the quote as it was originated by another fearmongering scientist (horror of all horrors!! ) |

UFO science key to halting climate change: former Canadian defense minister
Wed Feb 28, 2:45 PM ET
OTTAWA (AFP) - A former Canadian defense minister is demanding governments worldwide disclose and use secret alien technologies obtained in alleged UFO crashes to stem climate change, a local paper said Wednesday.
"I would like to see what (alien) technology there might be that could eliminate the burning of fossil fuels within a generation ... that could be a way to save our planet," Paul Hellyer, 83, told the Ottawa Citizen.
Alien spacecrafts would have traveled vast distances to reach Earth, and so must be equipped with advanced propulsion systems or used exceptional fuels, he told the newspaper.

#1519 | Thats right Al, why are they not just pushing YOUR agenda.. (nuts on both sides) Gore says media miss climate message Journalists have leaned toward balance at expense of consensus data, he says Quote:

MURFREESBORO — After being the red-carpet darling of the Academy Awards, it was back to reality Tuesday for Al Gore, who resumed his usual role of history-spouting wonk as he addressed a gathering of national media ethicists at MTSU.
Gore was the star of An Inconvenient Truth, which won best documentary feature at Sunday night's Oscars. The film showed the slide show presentation the former vice president has given countless times across the nation.
Back in Tennessee on Tuesday, Gore told a crowd of about 50 people at the U.S. Media Ethics Summit II that the presentation's single most provocative slide was one that contrasts results of two long-term studies. A 10-year University of California study found that essentially zero percent of peer-reviewed scientific journal articles disagreed that global warming exists, whereas, another study found that 53 percent of mainstream newspaper articles disagreed the global warming premise.

#1520 | Group: Global warming effects hunting Quote:
By BETH DUFF-BROWN, Associated Press Writer Wed Feb 28, 5:15 PM ET
IQALUIT, Nunavut Territory - Simon Nattaq lost both feet to frostbite when his snowmobile crashed through the ice, made thin by rising Arctic temperatures. (Wouldn't that make him part of the problem?)
All his gear plunged into the water too, leaving him stranded for two days. He now walks — and still hunts — with prosthetic feet, and believes God kept him alive to warn the world about global warming. Quote: |

Nattaq and other Inuit, the Arctic people of the United States, Canada, Russia, and Greenland — in Alaska where they're known as Eskimos — have been warning the world for more than a decade about the shifting winds and thinning ice. Hunting patterns thousands of years old are in jeopardy.

#1521 | I know I know, it's "only one" scientist's theory. Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says Quote:

Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet's recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human-induced—cause, according to one controversial theory.
Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.
In 2005 data from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps" near Mars's south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.
Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of the St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.
"The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars," he said.
