I've never seen snow or ice in December here in NW Arkansas. Been here 12 years.

Hi LAN,

Just remember, there's a first time for everything under the Sun!

We just got a foot of snow here in MA, with a blizzard on tap for Saturday-Sunday time frame with a bit of everything - sleet, snow, rain, and windy! My snowblower hates it!

So is the consensus that winter has come early this year? If so, how does that related to global warming, it would appear to negate a portion of support for the warming concerns.

What does it mean?
If 'you'are a neocon corporate socialist, it's solid proof the Earth doesn't get fried next year and you convinced a small crowd droughts don't count.
If 'you' are a card carrying lefty, it means you lose votes in the next election because the public has a short memory and Gore is a chump for exaggerating global warming.

The 'consensus' is a reflection of the greater number of political extremists posting in this thread and seems to have little to do with reality or science.

Global warming is about energy distribution and it's effects....on a global scale.
Not how soon winter comes to a bunch of hillbillies in Arkansas.......

(apologies for being un-pc.......it's been a warm fall in Ohio and my allergies are acting up from all the warm moisture and mold................. )

The Kyoto treaty was agreed upon in late 1997 and countries started signing and ratifying it in 1998. A list of countries and their carbon dioxide emissions due to consumption of fossil fuels is available from the U.S. government. If we look at that data and compare 2004 (latest year for which data is available) to 1997 (last year before the Kyoto treaty was signed), we find the following.

* Emissions worldwide increased 18.0%.
* Emissions from countries that signed the treaty increased 21.1%.
* Emissions from non-signers increased 10.0%.
* Emissions from the U.S. increased 6.6%.

Dems Accuse Bush of Manipulating Climate Science
Quote:
"The Bush administration has engaged in a systematic effort to manipulate climate change science and mislead policymakers and the public about the dangers of global warming,'' the report concludes.

It said the White House over the years has sought to control public access to government climate scientists, suppressed scientific views that conflicted with administration policy and extensively edited government reports "to minimize the significance of climate change.''

The White House called the findings "rehash and recycled rhetoric'' that has been addressed by administration officials in the past. "It's a thinly veiled attempt to distract attention from the administration's efforts ... at the Bali summit,'' said White House spokeswoman Emily Lawrimore...........
Efforts? at the Bali summit?
The U.S. delegate got booed by everyone there before the U.S. finally decided to join in!!!

And a great big Welcome Aboard! to all.

Top 11 Warmest Years On Record Have All Been In Last 13 Years
Quote:
The decade of 1998-2007 is the warmest on record, according to data sources obtained by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
...
Other remarkable global climatic events recorded so far in 2007 include record-low Arctic sea ice extent, which led to first recorded opening of the Canadian Northwest Passage; the relatively small Antarctic Ozone Hole; development of La Niņa in the central and eastern Equatorial Pacific; and devastating floods, drought and storms in many places around the world.......
And the world's tropical zone is expanding......and the waters are rising.

'The Arctic is screaming,' expert says
Article here.

Scientists say ice sheet is melting so rapidly, it could be gone by 2012

An already relentless melting of the Arctic greatly accelerated this summer, a warning sign that some scientists worry could mean global warming has passed an ominous tipping point. One even speculated that summer sea ice would be gone in five years.
