Corn-based ethanol doesn't just drive up corn prices. Because other crops are sacrificed to grow the corn, and because corn products are used to feed livestock, most all food prices are effected.
Consumer grocery costs are already up by 5% over the last year, and feed costs by as much as 30%. But that's only the beginning. Congress is about to double the mandate for ethanol.
Complains Jay Truitt, vice president of government affairs for the National Cattlemen's Beef Association:
The answer is simple: because politicians are irresponsible fools, and moonbattery is ubiquitous.
At least corn farmers benefit. A record 13.2 billion bushels were produced this year, yet the price just keeps rising. Unfortunately everyone else suffers. But it's wonderful to know that bureaucrats are doing something about the imaginary climate change crisis.

But the glaring gaps include the absence of renewable energy incentives.
A major disconnect! How will we ever be able to afford protection for LAN from snow in AK?
Oh, that's right - LAN's snowjob is coming to us from AK!

When GW was Governor of Texas he sucessfully promoted the use of wind farms to relieve their dependance on coal. Good for the state but not good for the country.
Isn't increasing fuel efficiency bad for the economy?
Increasing the use of biofuels is especially good since tailpipe emissions are about the same, if not worse, and George has his new great big ranch in Paraguay all set for growing soy for biofuels, I'm sure(80%)! | | Community Moderator with 50,012 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2003 Location: Central USA Experience: Need no stinking badges |

Now it's proven to be no better, and you blame it on the Bush Administration.

I supported its research. So far, the research isn't making much of a difference in the emissions.

In its first winter outlook of the year, the agency (Environment Canada) predicts that until February, climates across most of the country will be the coldest in 15 years, with the exception of a small pocket in southern Ontario. also
" We think that with La Nina — which encourages more Canadian air, more Siberian air, whatever you want to call it, Alaskan air — it tends to be more of that flow," he said, referring to the phenomenon of lower-than-normal temperatures in the Pacific Ocean.
| So the Canadian Government clearly stated that this cold winter..until february... is because of La Nina.
Nowhere in the article is Global Warming or Global Cooling ever mentioned.
And why would two months constitute a Year of global cooling ?
Didn't fix your calendar yet, Lan?

Whoa, there....bud.
I remember arguing with you on the corn/alky issues.
I called it as best a stop gap solution.
And my argument was that it was going to raise food prices with the consumer eventually having to decide whether to eat or drive his/her car.
Food goes up and whose the first to complain.......... ..........and blame it on the 'other guy'........
