Apparently I am. I believe that was the reason I posted it in the first place, wasn't it?

And what is it in the article you dispute and the evidence of 'it' being incorrect?

I would expect nothing less. However, I will say that of late there has been little substance to your posts. You've been pointed out to be incorrect on several occassions, and have chosen to ignore the fact. Obviously, your call, but sorta kills the debate.

Here's something that may make you think a bit, but I shan't hold my breath.

The disappearance of the Arctic sea ice, making it possible to reach the Pole sailing in a boat through open water, would be one of the most dramatic – and worrying – examples of the impact of global warming on the planet. Scientists say the ice at 90 degrees north may well have melted away by the summer.
You did not disappoint either.

Yeah, Lan....it's even from last year......

Replace 'so' with 'period' and we may be getting somewhere.

here's another one.

Quote:
Open water now stretches all the way round the Arctic, making it possible for the first time in human history to circumnavigate the North Pole, The Independent on Sunday can reveal. New satellite images, taken only two days ago, show that melting ice last week opened up both the fabled North-west and North-east passages, in the most important geographical landmark to date to signal the unexpectedly rapid progress of global warming.

It still doesn't say that the NP is currently ice free. Simply that the arctic can be circumnavigated. No big deal, IMO.

The silliness of Gustav being a "wetter" than normal hurricane.

It's hard to get pas the headline;

Quote:
Exclusive: Scientists warn that there may be no ice at North Pole this summer
So .... did the prediction come to pass? Far as I know, 90 degrees North is still covered in ice.

Stoner might disagree with you on that. (of late)

Is the North Pole covered in ice right now?

Who's right, and who was wrong?

what it's hard to get past is your non-sequiturs, mon ami.

Do you doubt that the arctic ice is melting at a rate hitherto unknown to mankind?

I'll let him answer that.

Not really. One can sail over it, but there is definitely floating ice. I believe some loon is going to kayak it also.

Did you not read my link showing a guy swimming at 90 north from last year?

Right now, there is no right or wrong. I've asked you a question wrt the melting of the arctic ice; I'll wait until you respond, and we'll go from there.

No, I do not doubt it.

Some say 60 years
Some say by 2040
Some say 6 years
Some say by 2012
Some say it was certainly going to happen this Summer .... my point is that those whom you cite were wrong.

All of these chicken littles are counting on the climate warming trend continuing without any reversal.

I submit that climate change is normal, and a cooling trend is probably close at hand.

I also sumbit that as the cooling trend gets more and more obvious, that the kooks who've been screaming about global warming will be the same kooks who will blame capitalism for the cooling, and that we're all going to be doomed if we don't join hands and embrace Socialism and 3rd world lifestyles.

Why is the issue of greater or lesser amounts of precipitation in a hurricane silly to you?

You read Tim's article incorrectly.

here's a very good site indeed.

Quote:
Recently, there have been reports that the ice at the North Pole may melt away completely during the summer of 2008. While the geographic point at the North Pole could be ice-free in summer at some point, NSIDC scientists have not made an official statement as to when this might happen. As for the idea of having no sea ice over the entire Arctic Ocean in the summer, NSIDC scientists are certain that this will not happen in 2008. The scientific community has a range of predictions concerning when we could see an ice-free Arctic Ocean in summer. It could be as early as 2013 or as late as 2100. NSIDC’s projections generally fall somewhere in the lower half of this range...............................................The last time that the ocean was likely free of summertime ice was 125,000 years ago, during the height of the last major interglacial period, known as the Eeemian. Sea level was also 4 to 6 meters (13 to 20 feet) higher than it is today because the Greenland and Antarctic Ice Sheets had partly melted. Because of the burning of fossil fuels, global averaged temperatures today are getting close to the maximum warmth seen during the Eeemian.
hmmm.

finally, here's a chart for the last 50-odd years of the arctic ice. Graphical representations are usually a bit easier to grasp.
