Unhappy Animal Planet
OK, another Iraq thread, so here goes. Watching Animal Planet TV programme re Houston SPCA.

Story line (punctuated by full stops for the sake of brevity) being a Staff Sergeant who's patrol vehicle hits a puppy dog. Stops vehicle. Picks up puppy. Dog stays with Sergeant, never leaving his side for three weeks. Dog flown to Houston via London. Arrives Houston where the SPCA take delivery. SPCA introduce Sergeants wife to Ratchet the puppy dog. The dogs new home to be the Sergeants, his wife and family. Vet examines dog, giving the all clear for the Sergeants wife to take the dog home.

Vet says to Sergeants wife, please pass on my gratitude and heartfelt thanks to your husband for his brave work in Iraq. I'm sure you will be very happy to see him home in two weeks time. To which the Sergeants wife breaks down in tears, informing the orthopaedic vet that only this morning she was informed that her husbands company have been given new orders. Their company is to stay in Iraq until further notice

Just one small but sad story from Iraq

Bring our boys home Oldie

Another sad story.

As long as there is oil to be had and money to be made and portfolios will increase we will be in Iraq!

Thanks oldie....70% of Americans disagree with GW and Cheney's war. We need to remain vigilant and active to bring our boys and girls home.

a dishonest way to get a gripe about the war across, Oldie. I love animal planet....was hoping to see some sort of discussion going on about the channel and its programming...very disappointed to see it used as a springboard for another war gripe.

Extremely surprised at your reaction to this thread Val. However, just for the record, I will gripe and I will gripe. And I will gripe again if needs be. I am sick to the back teeth seeing widows, mothers, fathers and kiddies weeping at their sad loss. I have spent most of my professional working life dealing in human tragedy. Maybe I have become soft in my later years. If so I have no regrets, therefore I will continue to gripe if it gets a message home to one single person.

My thread is not an opinion. It's a simple report on a programme both my wife and myself watched. Yes, even Animal Planet connecting with the Iraqi situation. Must say something.

I couldn't give a monkeys hind legs for the politics involved in the Iraqi conflict. My only take on the situation is one of a humane nature. Therefore I will gripe and gripe until our lads are back home with their loved ones.

Not official yet, but chances are 4000 British troops will be pulled out by the end of May this year. As I say, not official yet therefore no source

Further British troop withdrawals from Iraq appeared a step closer yesterday when Tony Blair announced that an operation to put local forces in control of security in Basra was complete. Downing Street has made a cut in troop numbers conditional on the success of the operation and a statement from the prime minister to the Commons is expected soon

I wasnt aware that the woman's husband was dead. From what I gathered, he'd been ordered to stay longer.

you missed the point I was trying to make entirely. Its not about your desire to see the troops come home (I have the same desire) it was the misleading title that got me in here that I took exception with. It doesnt matter though.

I'm sorry i said a thing.

Thread title? .. never judge a book by it's cover
