Question Okay is gateway good computer?
Okay is gateway good computer?

Crashing after having more RAM installed

So what happens is that I recently went to a shop and they installed an extra Kingston 2x512 into my Gateway computer. My computer has an AMD X2 3800. Anyways, so now my total was 2gb of memory, however after I got back, my computer crashes. A lot. I notice that it crashes a lot when I have more then one thing open, although sometimes it crashes when I don't. The reason I upgraded to 2gb was because I wanted more RAM for my music software - of course, now my music programs are useless because they keep crashing themselves or else the computer crashes.

Anyways, when i say crash, basically what happens is that the screen goes blank and reboots, with the Windows message "recovered from serious error". Other then that it's what would happen if I normally rebooted. Sometimes before the actual crash for a second or two the sound will suddenly start repeating, kind of like on a broken CD or something.
Okay here is a Civilized Debate all or just some gateway computers are bad?

Its hard to say that about an entire PC brand. Too many variables involved with the range of systems each one sells and the variety of components installed. Where brand name PCs start to differentiate themselves in terms of the quality is in what powersupplies they use, the type of chassis, the case...As well as in what kind of warranty and support they offer. The last two things being the most important, probably.

You can buy a Ford or a Toyota and know that those parts are completely proprietary. A Gateway PC might have a Foxconn motherboard (for example), an AMD processor, rebranded Kingston RAM, etc etc... Yet another one of their lines could have Intel motherboards and Intel processors with rebranded Samsung RAM...Components that Dell or Lenovo or Acer might use in their systems, too.

That particular problem could be an example of bad RAM, or an imcompatibility issue with the motherboard or something like that.

If I had to buy a system I'd look at what kind of warranty and tech support they offer.

the canon printer i got with it is a waste of my time.. but everything else about it has been splended and "the 4 year, we come to you if your computer has technical issues, peace of mind warrenty" does loads for me and my sleep
