The Erosion of Rights: Declining Civil Rights Enforcement Under the Bush Administrati
New report released the Citizens’ Commission on Civil Rights and the Center For American Progress here. Donwloadable in PDF.

The first section of the report, written by five former se*nior officials in the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, reveals exactly how civil rights enforcement by the executive branch has fallen in to a dangerous state of disrepair.

Wonderful, qoutes from libdolt dimmocraps that allowed Reno to incinerate women and children, forcefully invade and kidnap a child and return him to paradise. Entrap, then attack and kill innocent civilians at Ruby Ridge. And you are worried about losing rights under Bush. What a hypocritic thing to say!

I don't see where Tom has voiced an opinion. He's simply quoted a factual article from a source

So much for the 'law and order' right. Reno's mistake with the Branch Davidians was waiting 50+ days to do anything............should have been within three days. Elian belonged with his father, and last I heard was quite happy. Reno/Clinton had squat to do with Ruby Ridge..........were'nt in office.

Too bad that TooBad is not more informed about Civil rights - including his/her own, It would appear that TooBad holds the government responsible long after it has changed stewards. We should all be concerned about losing rights under Bush, especially habeas corpus. Its the sheer hubris of the Bush Admin that takes the cake, and he expects the rest of us (including the rest of the world) to eat it! After Bush lied to the American people about the build up to the Iraq war, there is probably enough evidence to impeach that messianic talks-to-God POTUS, but let us hope not without impeaching Cheney at the same time. Now, that's something that can give us all hope for some peace after the Iraq war is wound down! We have already won the war, we just haven't won the peace along with the hearts-and-minds of the Arab street to dissolve terrorism! Bush doesn't even know what he is talking about more than half the time! Good riddance as soon as possible - I say!

Well then, impeach him. I keep hearing Bush is the anti-christ. So then lets see him held to account for it. Clinton faced impeachment for getting his winky whacked, why can't Bush? It's almost as if Bush hasn't commited any crimes!

Habeas corpus is safe if you are an American citizen that is a big hyperbole of the left wing that knows nothing about law.

So, Littlefield, as an American citizen are you willing to risk having your rights pulled out from under you, just in case the Bushies during the remainder of the term pull the trigger in the US and institute martial law? I think not, and what makes you so certain that an American citizen is safe without habeas corpus?

I have talked about this is the other threads . Padilla was moved from military court to federal . That latest spying incident the person will be tried in federal court not a military commission . If you are an American citizen you have rights different from detainees.
To think that Bush could have that much power is so absurd .How could he do that when he might not even get privledge for Rove or Gonzales. Plus ,I know Billy Wilkins Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
among others . I am not Arab . No I am not worried at all.

Do you know how silly you sound to people who are actually educated in the law? My god man you sound like chicken little running around screaming the sky is falling! The sky is falling!

There is absolutely no truth to the ultra-liberal bullshat you've been reading about habeas corpus.

LOL! I read TomCrap's post and I was shaking my head in disbelief over the utter ignorance and then I saw your name and I knew you were going to quote that garbage and say something exactly like what you said!

What's hilarious in all this is the statistics--hell convictions for violent crimes have been dropping while Bush is in office! What we really should do if we wanted to have some real fun is to challenge these stupid liberals to find statistics on convictions in the US by the federal government--if Bush is really stripping us of our rights, the convictions for crimes must be double and triple what they were when Clinton was in office, right?

Hey TomCrap--can you cite us the Civil Rights Statistics from the DOJ? Can you find any evidence in terms of statistics to prove that the Bush Admin enforcement of Civil Rights has declined? Can you show us how Bush has done compared to Clinton?

You know--"evidence" as compared to editorials.

Like I thought!

http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/2007/March/07_crt_163.html

Quote:
The Civil Rights Division is committed to the vigorous enforcement of every federal criminal civil rights statute, such as those laws that prohibit the willful use of excessive force or other acts of misconduct by law enforcement officials. The Division has compiled a significant record on criminal civil rights prosecutions. During the past six years, the Department of Justice has convicted nearly 50% more defendants for official misconduct than during the preceding six years.
Of course--I realize the DOJ is not as "authoritative" and credible a source as the Center for American Progress!

Here is another interesting statistic from the DOJ (you know liberals hate statistics and facts because they'd rather spin). The number of violent crimes dropped dramatically while Clinton was in office--it continued to drop while Bush has been in office, but not near as much. How in the hell is that consistent with a loss of civil rights through action (or inaction) of Bush as compared to Clinton?

Ok gbrumb,

Prove it! Put your smart a** mouth where your legal training is supposed to be. Present the unbiased evidence - i.e. if you can swallow hard. Thank God you are not the judge in this matter!

Answer these questions:
1) What is habeas corpus?
2) What foundational place does it hold in our rule of law?
3) What did the Patriot Act acutally do to habeas corpus?
4) Why does Congress think it has to recind the Patriot Act provisions on habeas corpus?

-- Tom

P.S. By calling someone silly for either their view or postition on an issue does not in any way shape or form make them less able than someone supposedly "educated" in the law. You inflammatory remarks, i.e. if you do know anything about the law, are both inconsiderate and consist mostly of puffery on your part. I could go on, but then again - you've already painted yourself as to who you truly are.
