Mongolian Hordes Techniques in Society..
"The greatest pleasure is to vanquish your enemies and chase them before
you, to rob them of their wealth and see those dear to them bathed in
tears, to ride their horses and clasp to your bosom their wives and
daughters."

The above quote was from-Genghis Khan.

This morning, I was reflecting on the maladies of modern turkey and I thought I would discuss incivility in our country. Turks are in the midst of an uncivil war which has rented division by the instability in iraq. The lines between the nationalist and islamist form a common occurence in our country.A nation split over its place in the world, over its basic values, over its future direction. No matter who wins, the Uncivil War is likely to continue. The stakes are higher than I could ever imagine..

But my concerns this morning are broader than politics, which in a sense has always brought out immoral elements to our society. My primary concern is how politics is a reflection of the incivility within society as a whole and on almost every level and in practically all arenas. Perhaps, before I begin, I should explain definition Turkish civility.

To us civility refers - politeness, the courtesy, the mutual respect and restraint that must be exercised if persons are to live together in a decent society. It means recognizing the worth and dignity of every person and even those with whom we may disagree. I think it is the truth, justice, compassion, peace and the common good. Now whether that household is a marriage, a family - civility requires that we restrain our own our own desires and moderate our speech for the common good. There must be mutual submission and mutual respect or else chaos and disunity will rule the country.

There is a increase in violence and vandalism in my country and Suicide rates are high because economic problems and also due to lack of tourism for last few years. Smuggling of humans to europe from asia is continuing and drug addiction is growing problem. Old Men and Women dont get any respect in our society anymore. Every man for himself is the motto of a modern turk. We , Turks wish to change our society but it needs cooperation from pollical, model citizens and celebrities to helps us gain this beautiful word called civility.I used to consider our society civilized. Perhaps the society of our parents was – ours is not. We are not plagued by Mongolian hordes techniques yet.., but our lives are vulnerable to the defilement and destruction that bedeviled our ancestors. the evening news these days attests to this fact ... Nothing is what it seems any more.. Satanic acts are prevalent everywhere.. I pray that nothing happens to our country.

Now..over to TSgers.. Please explain your understanding of civility? it all yours now.

I was brought up to respect my elders. be polite at all times even when angry ..

and believe me when you have been on the end of a telephone for 30 mins trying to get a human response from a company that can be quite a task .....

The same rules apply for me here .. there is no excuse for rudeness

Todays society is lacking in civility and its sad .. children/young adults seem to have no respect for authority be it at school or on the streets ..

How many would today give up their place on the bus for an elderly person or pregnant woman . ????

Treat everyone how you would like to be treated yourself and you cant go wrong

I will be polite to people until it is not returned. Once a person has proven they are rude, uncaring, disingenuous, or any other disturbing trait, I no longer have the desire to carry on with that person.

Difficult one this johnny, I suppose we all have our limits of tolerance toward individuals. In some cases it is possible to cajole and pursuade a more favourable reaction from an individual. With others it's simply wasted effort, especially if they are infected with the pudgy budgie syndrome .. repeat .. repeat .. repeat
