Big Brother is watching and talking the UK.
Hi
The UK as 4.2million operators watching 1/5 of the CCTV cameras in the word.
They are now fixing loudspeaker to some of these camera in sensitive places so they can worn people who are behaving in an anti social way If this stops the bad behaver it will save the police been called.
My self I can only see this as a good thing, but some say it is open to abuse, Would this be acceptable in Your country.
We did discuss this last year but things have changed a lot since then.
Regards
Rex

I don't think that would fly here. Camera's are up in some of the more crime infested areas, but affixing loud speakers would quickly mean the state is paying for things to get shot, damaged, spray painted, even stolen.

As much as I think the US has moved towards the novel 1984, the UK is far ahead of us on the citizen monitoring front.

Good thing in my opinion Rex. Pity though, the fact that it's necessary in the first place

Pick up a DVD copy of Red Road, although a drama, it gives a good insight into what goes on behind the scenes of a monitoring unit in a rough area of Glasgow

This is not a laughing matter to me Donna, sorry.

There are places I have driven thru and was a little offset by people looking at me just because I was driving a white car (they could not see thru the windows). Talking about troubled neighborhoods, Baltimore has one of the worst murder rates in the entire country.

And exactly, it does not solve a problem, merely forces it to move to another place.

Sorry Johnny .. it was meant to be a dig at us Brits ..... that we are so uncontrolable we need all those camersa

I am lucky in that i live in a small seaside town with no real crime only on those 2 nights when yobs feel the need to pinch garden gnomes and move benches from one end of the town to the other ..... Minor vandalism thats all

Sorry i didnt mean to offend you

No offense taken! I was just trying to make a point that the US is often a much more violent society and yet the surveillance by the government is far less than that taken by your government.

And for the government to attach loudspeakers to camera's to enforce a "social moral behavior", I think this is far removed from the idea that government should be good for the people.

Grumpy? No, not really. I am actually in a good mood, listening to Oldies from the 80's () hahaha, just kidding. Check out the "What Are You Listening To" thread.

Governments encroaching upon my daily life to tell me to pick up trash or act as they see fit get's under my skin juuust a smidgen.
