NCAA, Rutgers women's coach blast Imus
Talk show host apologizes for calling NCAA runners-up 'nappy-headed hos'

NEW YORK - Radio host Don Imus apologized Friday for calling the Rutgers University women’s basketball team “nappy headed hos” on his nationally syndicated program.

The National Association of Black Journalists demanded his immediate firing after the man known as “Imus in the Morning” put his foot deep in his mouth Wednesday. Imus questioned the players’ looks, describing them as tattooed “rough girls.” His producer compared the team — which has eight black members — to the NBA’s Toronto Raptors.

Near the start of Friday’s show, Imus said he wanted to “apologize for an insensitive and ill-conceived remark we made the other morning referring to the Rutgers women’s basketball team.”

While clearly the statement had racial overtones, and I find the statement disgusting, he has just as much right to voice an opinion as you do, however unpopular that opinion may be.

I don't think Imus "hates" anyone based on their race.

He's in a position which counts upon his public persona and advertiser's commercial spots for his success or failure.

The free market will decide the punishment Imus will inherit from his idiotic comment.

He does have a right to say what he said (just like Jimmy the Greek on CBS in the early 80s) BUT there are consequences to his racial slurs and last I heard on CNBC WFAN is still deciding if they are going to fire him or not.

It will depend entirely upon the sponsors of his show.

I am guessing, since he apologized, that this will blow over. And I think it should.

I don't think it was a racist comment, and I don't think he should be fired or forced to endure a Politically Correct charade.

I know nappy headed ho's that aren't black.

All you need to be nappy headed is have rough hair.

Heck, some people would say -I'm- nappy headed.

Doesn't matter to liberals--as we've mentioned on numerous occasions, if its a white man making a remark that can in any way inferred to have racial overtones, liberals want his head. If its a black guy saying the same thing (and most of the times worse), the liberals could care less--hypocrites in every sense of the word. This isn't about concern for black, its about stupid politically correct liberal tirades. Kaaos wants everyone to know that he's a "progressive" and he doesn't tolerate racism in any way and by God he'll seek to punish the purveyors of it! Good for you kaaos--you're one hell of a civil rights defender! Basset, linsky, poochee and the rest will be along to give you a

Bottom line whatever happens, don't expect it to be rational.

Imus will not be fired . Al sharpton is bleeding him but it will not work . He has a career of making money for CBS radio and many high level contacts . This will fade in time after the Jesse Jackson,s try to gain as much as they can from it.I would not have given Al Sharpton any of my damn time and let him go after me like that I would have apologized like Imus has sincerely done. He makes a ton of money for CBS radio.
For those who do not know Imus has a ranch where he treats cancer patients a lot of them are black kids.
What he said 50 cent says all the time and Imus kids his wife is a green Ho because of her enviromental kick. He first said the girls are rough and have tattoos . His bald headed guy said Hos and Imus then made the comment nappy headed Ho's . It was not said in a racial manner .

Bottom line is that unlike other victims of the ban against free speech that cross over into taboo political correctness is that Imus will not be fired . Why , simple he has as much clout as the people wanting his scalp and he makes way too much money for CBS and he is known for his antics that sometimes are very close to the line .

Like I said when I posted this yesterday in the Rehab thread...let's crucify everyone who makes a politically incorrect statement....and there goes our government!

As usual too much is being made of this! Sharpton makes me sick...have we heard from Jackson yet?

Don has done far more good for others than to let this one faux pas ruin his career... He apologized and I thought very sincerely...let it go!

I know Angel he helped to spearhead the Vet's rehab center in TX , I think it is located there ,that was raised by private money .
His ranch in New Mexcio helps countless numbers of minority kids .
He cuts up a lot but he is a man who uses his money to really help people.
He will not be fired , no way.

Since 1990 Imus has championed children’s health charities, raising money for research into pediatric cancer and sudden infant death syndrome, and construction of a Don Imus/WFAN Pediatric Center for Tomorrow’s Children at the Hackensack (New Jersey) Medical Center.

As an aside, I think IMUS is an idiot--I don't know how he gets anyone to listen to him.
