this in Civ Debate? interesting

Well it's hard to really pinpoint the winner in the war of the consoles. All have their pros and cons.

I did thought Nintendo will lose out like SEGA did because it has been around for so long and haven't really been that great in the last couple of consoles (not including Wii). But to give credit where credit is due, without Nintendo, the PlayStation may have never been released. The Wii certainly has potential, but I fear the games may not be as gripping as the games on the PS and XBOX. Sticking to Mario is not good. He needs to retire and bring in some new characters.

The PS3 and XBOX360 is basically boiled down to whichever console the person got the first time round. Both are great consoles, with PS3 with an advantage with the older customers as they have backward compatibility all the way to the original PS. But having the better drive (Blu-ray) could put Sony at an advantage.

I will admit I'm the Sony side of the force, because I have great experiences with the PS and Sony products. I have seen and played on the XBOX360. My only gripe is the controller. It's a little too finiky to handle. Other than that, great console.

In Belgium, Wii consoles are sold out while PS3's stay on the shelves. A Wii costs 250 € and a PS3 costs 650 € !
I have a Wii and I'm really satisfied. The console is fully backward compatible with Gamecube games and it has a virtual console that emulates NES, SuperNes, Nintendo64, Sega Mega Drive and Turbografix for the nostalgics. I've already downloaded old games with my console which is able to connect the Internet via my Wireless router.
I just finished Call of Duty 3 : playing with the Wiimote is really fun !

Though these are all dedicated games consoles, how much do others think that this is comparing chalk and cheese - if for no better reason than the already mentioned price diff. ? This factor alone will influence many parents, subject to 'pester power' from their children to buy one.

Each has its plus points - ie as in the case of the Wii - cheap compared to the others, with plenty of positive reports of the enjoyment users have derived from it. While with the PS3, one has, for what it's worth, far greater processing power, and consequently far superior graphics - and the added advantage of a Blue Ray Player, inciuded in the price ... given that many of the dedicated stand alone Blue Ray Players cost more than a PS3.

========

One thing to watch out for if you have a Wii

For anyone who has not heard of it, there is an ongoing project to utilise the Wiimote with a PC :

In the near future, someone will invent games which people actually play and participate in , in the real world in ballparks, tennis courts and so on.

It's called exercise......................

In that same future, a man will run for office stating, and meaning he wants the 'Best for Britain.'

- I though will not be holding my breath.

However FWIW, You appear to be overlooking one vital element in the popularity of games consoles .... the escapist pleasure of allowing users to engage in pursuits they would in all probability never have a chance of experiencing in the real world ... Boxing, Rally Driving, etc ...

For me, RSM actually, really doing something, has always been more important than pretence.

It's surely like the difference between acting being in a war: and actually being in a war and being shot at!

Far too much of life, today, is pretence.

No wonder our leaders pretend too!

I don't know about that... perhaps they were working out the kinks... i would rather have them do that and make the console stable (and maybe better) than being rushed out and have tons of issues. Like RSM said, the fact that the console has blu-ray and is cheaper than a stand-alone player says something... it's like having a game console for free

360 does have great graphics, but so does the PS3. And history shows that the Playstation has made remarkable milestones in its sales... no doubt it will do the same in this generation console.

The point is that surely it will affect the sales of the PS3 as it has been delayed
