Does knowing tech ruin TV and movies?
My entire life people hated watching TV and movies with me because I am so anylitical. I anylize what I see and try to put it altogether. I am also a mathmatical person.

I never watched the movie "The Island" because it made no sense. Why create an entire human when we (at the time the movie takes place) can grow a kidney or liver in a lab. Or grow a human and never bring it to life and freeze it.

My wife and family like watching the hit TV show Numb3rs (Numbers). I can hardly stand watching it due to the fact that Math, although can be applied to just about everything, cannot solve every problem. You would have to have found that theoretical pattern that covers all of nature. I also don't like how "unreal" the government acts.

I find it hard to watch when an action packed great TV show starts talking about the "OS thats left over in a processor" that ends up as evidence. Or maybe the fact that the RAM in the Super Computer overflowed and drowned the motherboard.

I REALLY like the show House. My wifes doctor hates it because of how unreal it is. I like it because of the charactars and my lack of medical knowledge. But it does bother me when they talk doctor chatter and then one of them is lost and they explain.

i.e. "Oh no, his BLAH BLAH blood vein is about to BLAH BLAH." What? "I'ts like too much air in a baloon." Oh.....

Does this happen to you guys? Or do you just pretend to be ignorant?

I like movies I can get lost in and have vicarious experiences through.
I especially love narration.
Or anything Shakespeare

I also like science channels.

I do not like anyone editing on the side while I'm watching anything.

You just have to ask yourself: why am I watching this? If it's for entertainment, watch it, enjoy it, and leave out the criticism. If you aren't watching something like "24" for entertainment, then why watch?

TV has become very selective for me...I watch my local sports teams and Jeopardy and that's about it...Oh, and some Nova things on PBS....But, my technical side stays in check with the gizmos I have....

bingo. Tuesday night, discover the cosmos, and that's it except for F1. Catch Modern Marvels when I can, and that's about it. But then, I also have a smidge over a thousand or so books and about, oh, 6 movies, so I am not really a visual media kinda guy.

Actually valis, I wasn't much of a book person until about seven years ago. (Other than tech manuals.) But, since then, I've become a bookworm of sorts...Fascinating...

I've been a reader from go. To me, my imagination has always outstripped what somebody else can put together and toss on a screen, and the art of crafting a novel has always been, imo, far more difficult than a screen play......but that's just me, and as I tend to do a lot of writing, and have had some random junk published, I'm probably not the least biased person out there.

Regardless, the mainstream of television is NOT for me. As I mentioned, I watch the cosmos on discovery science each tuesday night, and that's about it. Never seen Friends, Lost, um, what else is there.....Survivor or any 'reality show'......do like Jeopardy, but haven't seen it in about a decade. They need to move that back a few hours.....

Sadly for me entertainment must be at least plausible.

(No offense even though it is offensive)

All people of the world are ignorant morons that refuse to leave the dark abis of their tiny existance they call life to open their eyes to what is beyond the borders of their understanding.

Heres a test: Most statisics are made up on the spot using little raw data and are just used to prove a point. 38% of all people know that. Thats too few

The first one that got what was wrong with the above statement gets kudos. (If you do not get it its ok, its a test of thinking outside the box)

At a young age I decided to not believe anything I'm told, but instead compare it to what I do know and what I have observed. I have a different thought process than most people.

i.e. Someone tells me that there is ice at the North Pole. Most people will say "Everyone knows that you idiot". What happens with me is I start thinking:
1. Ice needs cold temperatures.
2. The Sun, Ocean, and environment is responsible for temperatures.
3. Very little UV rays from the sun hit the north pole due to the shape of the earth and the way it spins.
4. Right now, global warming has not increased enough to effect the NP.
5. Water covers almost the entire world, this includes most of the NP.
6. Freezing temperatures cause water to turn from ice.
7. Many other people can confirm this.
8. I tell the guy "Whats new?"

Thats what happens when I watch TV or a movie. I take what I saw happen in the movie previously and apply it to whats happening. I also apply real life to it, not expecting it to be 100% realistic but I want at least a 75% posibility.

As far as why I would watch this stuff if not for enjoyment? My wife loves these shows and likes to watch movies. Shes into the magical world of dragons, werewolves, vampires, witches, romance, and the like. Her book collection is huge.

The bottom line is that I have no choice but to endure the torture of ignorant stupidity. I am more into interactivity. The stories in games are reletivly fixed, but at least I get to be involved.

In the end I guess I will get the guys together and go to Laser Quest and frag them in real life. BTW I'm always in the top three

Whoa, TurboAAA, you are very analytical, but is everyone else around you? And, who are you trying to impress? You? Sometimes you have to let things go for everyone else to be involved. Even though other people don't possess your quickness, they still have their own identities....We all share and learn from each other...So what I'm saying is...
A lot of people watch a movie for the emotion, not the digital accuracy..

I wish I had more time to read. I tend to do most of my reading when I'm away from my family. A shame, yes. But I still enjoy life.
This is not to say those who read a lot don't enjoy life...I just can't read a lot with family life-

I'm not surprised she likes escapist movies and books - living with you must be a nightmare. There's such a thing as suspension of disbelief, and I think I need to employ it now
