O.J. Turned Away --- Was it Discrimination?
You may have read about a little incident that happened here in my beautiful home town the night before the Kentucky Derby. If not here's a synopsis:

Quote:
The owner of an upscale steakhouse said he asked O.J. Simpson to leave his restaurant the night before the Kentucky Derby because he is sickened by the attention Simpson still attracts.

"I didn't want to serve him because of my convictions of what he's done to those families," Jeff Ruby said in a telephone interview Tuesday.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/LAW/05/09/si....ap/index.html

O.J.'s attorney is now threatening to sue because he's certain the incident was about race.

As if that's not enough nonsense, we have our local Jessie Jackson/Al Sharpton wannabe -- the Reverend Louis Coleman -- picketing the restaurant with signs that say “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

The Reverend also said "I’m a ’60s baby. We fought for open housing, open accommodations … this is almost like déjà vu." http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/...AQRo4Rx2EMs%3D

O.J. is turned away and suddenly it's like segregation all over again?

It seems to me that there are a lot more important things to protest about than whether or not O.J. gets to eat at the restaurant of his choice. I don't believe he was discriminated against in any way, shape or form -- and I think that this is much ado about nothing.

What say you?

The Rev. Coleman is an opportunist of the worse order. Somebody should picket him. We got enough Al (not to)Sharptons in the world.

As far as OJ, sounds like his lawyer has got to much time on his hands.

I would have loved to have done just that. The man is a moron.

Screw that! OJ is a friggen sick murderer and I wouldn't let him anywhere near my place. Tell me you wouldn't mind hiim dating your daughter (or sister).

I tired of members of a "visible minority" screaming racism because they are rightfully reprimanded by society.

The owner of the steak restaraunt has every right to refuse service he owns the place it is not pubilc . I would love to see a jury debating a race issue over OJ in Kentucky

Same argument made in the 50s and 60s to refuse service to African-Americans. Didn't work then and doesn't work now. This is assuming that service was refused based on race. Refusing to serve a murder because he is a murder isn't in violation of the law. Murder isn't a protected class....at least not yet but get a few more liberals in the legislature and you never know.

Yea I should have clarified that he is refusing OJ being a murder. Just like if a black was drunk in there one night and caused a scene then the owner could bar him for that action and have every right since it was not based on race.

I agree with Pyro. and clhcpa O.J.'s had enough of the spotlight, wrongfully. Did you notice also that he left peacefully? Made it sound like he knew he was a nuisance. Kudos to the owner. No race involved here, that was made clear.

When the verdict came in I was at home watching, I jumped up from my chair and though alone shouted loudly, NO! But either you accept the laws or you don't. This piece of crap was found innocent so let it go. We're not still talking about Claus Von Bulow. In America race is a part of everything when African Americans are involved, it's inescapable. We can't even have a civilized debate about it in cyberspace.

Zaney, tell me, if you were living during the 1920's and a black guy got lynched down in Alabama, would you jump out of your chair and say NO!? So one black guy beats a rap-----whats the big deal.

I am sure there will be plenty of places for him to eat, I am just glad he left quietly. OJ knows that not many people like him, so he knows some places he will go he is not welcome! I just hate that people come out of the woodwork, trying to defend him and I hope OJ does not get on board with this crap!
