What are your thoughts on current issues?
I was curious to see what everyone thought of some of the current issues...not only in the sense of what you are planning to vote for in the next presidential election, but also in the sense of what kinds of things about the judicial system, immigration, etc., tick you off.

However, I DON'T want this thread to start talking about Social Security or bashing the president, so if you have thoughts on those things, post somewhere else!!!

Ban them. Current issues should become past tense as quickly as possible. That way, we'd have less time pressure involved. See? Cuz they would no longer be "current". So, that makes sense because ... oh nevermind.

Someone posted something in one of these more recent threads somewhere around here to the effect of,

"Small minded people talk about other people,
average people talk about events,
large minded people talk about ideas"

I see current events fitting mostly into those first two categories.

Hey Bandit!! So what are your thoughts on the new "immigration" bill?? Honestly, I hope it fails...we should just enforce what we already have...but apparently that thought process makes me an idiot.

I think the same thing I originally thought when Bush gave his "no amnesty" speech 6 months ago or so - that he's lying.

Linskyjack praised him for that speech, and I took it as a sign of what I always viewed linskyjack as - someone incapable of discerning truth from lies.

Hate to say I now feel vindicated.

Looks like Bush's "no amnesty" was a bunch of crap. As was his "they should pay back taxes", a silly, pointless concession which does nothing at all to address the problem itself, but pacifies those who aren't paying attention by throwing them some coinage, as if that somehow makes lawbreaking ok. Somehow, I doubt Mulder would be ok with legalizing heroin if we could tax it. But he seems to think that the crux of the illegal immigration problem is the financial drain illegal immigrants (allegedly) place on the economy of the US and California.

I think this "non-amnesty" amnesty is a bunch of crap.

Dontcha just LOVE how they threw the concession of "increased border security also .... from now on" in there?

Why don't they scrap the rest of the bill and JUST do the increased border security part of it??????????????

AGREED!!

So how does everyone feel about the new president of France? Now that he's been in office for 2(?) weeks?? I seem to recall something on the news about some pretty serious rioting...no one on here would have been involved in that would they?

Personally, I fail to see the point of a riot....what exactly does it accomplish besides some serious damage to property and some jail time?? Are these people thinking with the right heads (or at least don't have it shoved in somewhere it doesn't belong) when they do this sort of thing??

How do you from the UK feel about the "soon-to-be" Prime Minister Gordon Brown?? Do you think he'll do a good job in office, or are you afraid that he might mess things up even more so than they already are?

Is there hope that you guys can have some of your laws repealed (i.e. the one that protects the criminals from the person they are robbing??? That law seems like a load of crap IMHO...but it's whatever floats ya'lls boats I guess.)???

BTW, there is no offense to be taken from that last statement, it's just my personal opinion...you have the right to disagree.

To plagerise "I consider current issues more than likely to occur."

"Furthermore, if existing circumstances keep on cropping up, I do feel they will last as long as they pertain."

"That said, it is highly doubtful that once current situations have appeared and dispersed, they will reappear at the same time and in a similar fashion."

"Perhaps, our best strategy in handling these extraneous events, is to focus on yesterday and tomorrow and carefully consider all of our options: precipitate may well prove dangerous and uncertain. Who is to know at this time?"

Therefore, let us together, stout of body and firm in our resolve and not deviating from that which we must do, go forward with a strong heart and easy mind, determined to meet the objective solutions our intelect determines are critical to our collective future wellbeing and success."

The concept came from a disk Peter Sellers cut back in the 60s, entitled "A Political Speech". It just waffles on and says absolutely nothing. Very clever.

Other than that, the post was my own words.

Iraq is an evolved Viet Nam - Britian's queen is actually Elton John - the U.N. Seems like a drunkin sailor - the war on terrorism has no end - all I can afford is a dollar meal and a box of wine - Bush lies more than a rug - special interest groups jerk this nation around like a tweakin meth user - don't get sick if you don't have insurance - the idea of a green state must quit meaning money and start meaning the envorinment - Dr. Phil and Rosie O Donell must spoon and make up - We have black and female presidential hopefulls when the nation is not ready - space is the direction we must go - mickeyD's needs to bring back the McRib and and Jerry Springer- Van halen and the go go's are all making a comeback
