Cut and Pasters - a decision
I know this has been an issue for some time but I have reached the final straw. I was just reviewing a thread with post after post of cut and paste from the same member with no comment.

My decision? If a member is incapable of expressing their own views without resorting to flooding a thread with articles and offering no conclusions of their own then I will place them on ignore.

If said member truly wants to learn how to make a point, support it with links to pertinent articles, make specific quotes then draw a conclusion I am more than willing to instruct them in the proper method - anything to elimate annoying and time consuming "splash and dash" posting that wastes bandwidth and obscures actual worthy posts.

Right! I'm off to do a little "ignoring".

I hope you are not refering to my thread on Lost Worlds and New Species Found....or my Earth Anomalies thread ...they are in Random, and none of us have the time to do all the exploration and stuff to feed the threads.....they were meant for compiling interesting info. and articles to share with everyone.....AAARRRGGGHH....if you are talking about those, I am sorry for offending your finer sensibilities....SSHHHEEESSSH

Nope! Relax your butt cheeks. I am referring to a notorious cut and paster (maybe I can coin a new abbreviation: C/P'r). I enjoy your posts far too much to put you on ignore!

Hi Jim....

I understand.
I used to copy and paste a lot when I first joined TSG.
Eventually I realized I wasn't really getting my ideas across as well as I should and began expressing opinion in my own words as much as possible.

While I've never put anyone on ignore and don't intend to, mostly when I see a lot of c&p.....I just gloss over it and go to a more interesting post.

Too many cartoons, though, used in the debate threads.......
(yes...I was guilty of that too .... )

Hi Jack!

I was the same, being new to the internet and naieve about forums and proper posting techniques.

My intention is not to "ignore" a member per se, but merely to cut through all the chaff to find a few kernels of wheat. I must be growing impatient with age but I don't have the time to sift through all the detritus to discover the motherlode.

I just read an article on the Internet about this very issue. I'll go find it post it here for everyone to read.

It get kind of tiresome to read through some threads, just to find that they are post after post of C/P, with very little in the way of comment or opinion from anybody.
I thought this was Civilised Debate, not News Aggregation.
And the Sticky at the top of the Section mentions something about posting whole articles ...
I don't see why people can't post a link, a description of the link, maybe including ONE PARAGRAPH AT MOST, and SOME COMMENTARY.
Or would that require too much effort?

Additon:
Quoting an entire C/P post, just to add " ". Yeah, thanks for making me scroll through 3 pages of the same article repeated, just for ... ... X/

This is how it is done:

I agree with BlackSpike saying:

Quote:

I have taken only that part of the post that supports my position. If one wants to quote only a fragment of a quote it is done by using triple periods:

Quote:
...I realized I wasn't really getting my ideas across as well as I should...
I don't approve of using the quote feature. That quotes the entire post. When I see that I have no idea what point made in the post is being referred to.

i could have sworn I started a thread complaining about the cut and crappers but i don't see it.

you now will be forever labeled as intollerent Pyrite.

people like Poochee and Xico thrive on that BS.

they are not going to stop despite the absurdity of what they are doing.

of course then you got the others who should c and p as they are incapable of saying anything intelligent.

i make no claims to being a great debater but at least i make an attempt to respond.

I don't know what you can do about the Pseudo Mental Masturbaters.
