slowing down after you see the cop
one of the little bits of human behavior that fascinates me is what speeders do after they pass the cop
First I guess I should say that I don't have a radar watcher. Probably because I would then drive even faster then I do. And that scares me.
When I am highway driving speeding that is natch and I see a copcar way ahead of course I will slow down. And of course if one of my speeding buddies suddenly slows down I do too since I assume he has radar. But if I pass a cop car or see him after he could have gotten a reading on me I tend to slow down a little.

Me I figure Hey I did speed and if he i sgoing to ticket me so be it
But what amuses me no end are the speeders who slow down to the speed limit or below and skulk there for a few miles before slowly getting up to speeding.

What do others do in this situation?

I don't like the peace officer behind me, so I try not to pass him.
If I accidently pass him, I take the next exit, or street away from him. I don't like being tailed by authoritative figures in any way.
I hope they all read this and are ashamed of their snickering when everyone slows down.
They are as bad as the kids that get flashlights to seat people in the theatre....then randomly flash down isles to see if anyone has their feet up on the chair in front of them
pure gestapo mentality

I would love to know who the cop was that stopped the car I was in with my friends on our way to Woodstock. As you may have guessed, I never got there because of him. He stole part of my childhood by depriving me of the experience

Happens all the time in the UK.

I have a very good mate who is a traffic cop and he has told me about times when they are bored on a motorway (highway) and they will drive along gradually slowing down, they then have bets with each other about how slow they can get before someone will pass them. He has got down to 40mph (speed limit is 70mph) once before anyone went past.

this is something I've never understood. Even wrote a column about it when I was writing columns. Do these people think they get extra credit for driving 5 below the speed limit if there is a cop around?

Man, I can't tell you how many times I've hooked up with a cop doing 80 down the interstate, let him lead, and I'll follow. I've also passed cops that were doing the speed limit, and I'll do about 5 over, on average (except in school zones - generally do about 5 under there; had a bad experience in which a speeder in front of me drilled a kid), and the cops never seem to mind when I pass them. I reckon if they want to nail me for doing 58 in 55, that's their right, got to make quota, but it's more hassle for them and I'm fairly certain I'll be able to beat it anyhow.

But never understood that phenomena......see a cop, stand on the brakes. Idjits.

Yea in SC it is aganist the law to go under speed limit in left lane and a woman slowed down because the cop was behind her and he could not pass and she got a ticket.

i generally do about 5-10 above the limit, specially when it s a freeway or interstate, but when it late at night/early in the morning, i like to let loose. my uncle used to be a cop and he said he used to go under the limit just to see of people would pass him.

If there's a plod car doing 70 in the outside lane of a UK motorway, flash him to get out of the way: somewhere in the Road Traffic Acts it states drivers should not enforce the speed limit in this way, and that if a car approaches behind going over the speed limit you should move to an inner lane and allow it to pass

if someone is being a "Johnny Q. Citizen" as i call them, by making people do the limit i usually pass them and go slower just to piss them off.

Well, all I can say is it's too bad we can't ticket the cops for playing with traffic

And where are all the people that avoid them like me. We see them all over the highways, slowing down in a nanosecond to snails pace when they see the cop car....but ask who slows down on a forum and they all disappear....hmmmm

Thats cause the ones that do slow down take so long to get anywhere they don't have time to visit forums. On the other hand, those that get from A to B as fast as possible have plenty of time to browse and post when they get there

Well....which do you do?
So far, I am the most extreme of reactions here...I slow down, and turn off too.
So I am left feeling damaged among all these reasonable and brave people.

You bunch of wussies!! I one finger salute them, speed up and dare them to catch me!!

That's provided I'm on a divide highway going the opposite direction and he has no way to turn on to my side of the highway.

Aren't you a little too old for that?
