Due to the fact that you insinuated that the US is a theologcal country, which it is not, even though it was founded on clearly Judeo/Christian principles and values. Add the fact that you are not a US citizen (I would have used the term not American, but that is falacious as Canada is part of America), your opinion of the US is simple envy.

Correction: Canada is part of North America.
Collapsing financial economy. Collapse of the industry base, most importantly the auto industry. Record debt and climbing unemployment. Yep, I'm really envious.
But seriously. Do you deny that the religious lobby in America doesn't greatly influence American policy and law-making?

In fact, I would bet that the "religious lobby", whichever "religion" you are indicating, is probably the least influential as could be determined by the course of our laws for the past 50 years or more.
And if you needed an emergency surgical procedure, you wouldn't come running to the US to save your miserable life? Right!!

#23 | While we are not controlled by religion like some countries in the mideast there is no question the religious right have influence on the republican party. One only has to look at those that are pro choice in the party and how they are ostracized by the majority. On the left there is religion too but they are just hypocrites on this. If one is catholic I do not see how they can be a democrat and support abortion for example like Pelosi | | Community Moderator with 16,982 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2002 Location: Cowtown, against my will Experience: PHD -poop handling degree |

Right!! | Once again an misinformed American expressing their ignorance about another country. It's getting old. Do you realize how stupid Americans appear when they open their mouths and spew forth a myth they swallow so gullibly? Why is it done? Do some Americans need to put down others to instill a sense of superiority in themselves? Who starts such stupid myths? The same ones that think Canadians live in igloos and ski in July?

Don't you realize how stupid Canadians seem when they make sweeping generalizations without any specifics? You mean the "myth" the Canadians flock to medical facilities in the US for treatments to save their lives instead of waiting 6 months for an MRI or surgery? Sorry, but that is not a myth.

#26 | Stem Cell Contact Lenses Cure Blindness in Less Than a Month. Here's something that people with poor or no vision will be excited about: three patients had their sight restored in less than a month by contact lenses cultured with stem cells.
All three patients were blind in one eye. The researchers extracted stem cells from their working eyes, cultured them in contact lenses for 10 days, and gave them to the patients. Within 10 to 14 days of use, the stem cells began recolonizing and repairing the cornea.

Sorry, but that is not a myth. | Prove it's not a myth. And I personnaly had an American couple stop me in a hot July day and ask where the ski hill was. That was not a myth; it was a personal experience. I don't know where you get your information from but I don't think you spend much time north of the border.
But this thread is not about you and I butting heads, so let's keep it on track.
I still believe it is religious fundamentalists that are blocking stem cell research the same way they try to block birth control, sex education and the teaching of evolution.

About 1982 or thereabouts on August 28th of said year, The Boston Globe ran a front page photo of skiers skiing down Killington in VT. So, in fact, it is possible in mid-Summer for it to snow in New England as in this case which is way south of your location in Canada.
Perhaps the American couple were assuming that the higher the altitude, as in mountains (maybe there were some nearby in your locale - Mont Tremblant? perhaps), the better chance of snow (even in Summer) which, given Global Warming, may have less of a chance these days than when your experience ocurred.
Just saying,
-- Tom

That is a huge myth. Conservatives have rightly blocked federal funding of embryonic stem cell research only. If it were a viable research path, there would be plenty of private money for the research. There is federal money researching adult stem cells which have proved very successful. You keep perpetuating myths that are designed to confuse the uninitiated. I am not one you can fool.

#30 | Not trying to fool anybody but when I hear the tired old myths about the sorry state of Canadian health care I do cry "Myth!"
I have camped in Mt. Tremblant and at close to 30 degrees C there was nary a trace of snow. I lived 20 plus years in Quebec and never saw snow in the summer months. But those damn Yankees were still up here, looking for the white stuff!
