Red face How the old fridges effect the Planet.
The Canadians are responsible for this. Because of all the beer we drink.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,313844,00.html

Scientists have found a new threat to the planet: Canadian beer drinkers.

The government-commissioned study says the old, inefficient "beer fridges" that one in three Canadian households use to store their Molson and Labatt's contribute significantly to global warming by guzzling gas- and coal-fired electricity.

"People need to understand the impact of their lifestyles," British environmental consultant Joanna Yarrow tells New Scientist magazine. "Clearly the environmental implications of having a frivolous luxury like a beer fridge are not hitting home. This research helps inform people — let's hope it has an effect."

The problem is that the beer fridges are mostly decades-old machines that began their second careers as beverage dispensers when Canadians upgraded to more energy-efficient models to store whatever Canadians eat besides doughnuts and poutine.

University of Alberta researcher Denise Young, who led the study, suggests that provincial authorities hold beer-fridge buy-backs or round-ups to eliminate the threat — methods that Americans use to get guns off the streets.

Gee, are the canadians drinking beer on other planets too? That would explain the tempurature increases there.

and here I thought this would about them being shipped to antarctica and causing the hole in the ozone .

some people just come up with the darnedest ideas. if they spent half their energy on worrying about something important they might actually accomplish some good.

of course then if you dispose of these coolers there will be the issue of the freon. maybe we should send em all up on the next space shuttle next to the loonies who think this crap up and open the hatch.

Drinking Molson would give you the trots, cause more use of paper, water, and fossil fuels. See, it's the Molson not the fridges

Would the beer-fridges have to be functional? Would the provincial authorities plug them in to check during the buy-backs? Around here it is tough to get rid of old refrigerators. The local land fill will not take them. You have to pay a recycler to take them. A buy-back would give people a chance to dispose of a lot of old refrigerators and not only would they not have to pay for disposal, they could get paid for them. Would the provincial authorities accept beer-fridges imported from the U.S.?

I sent a PM to the mods about it when it first showed up a couple days early. they said they have it show 3 days before and after as i recall.

I had nothing to do with it. If anybody thinks I have any pull with the powers to be here they have not witnessed enough of my irritating posts.
