A valid criticism of the NY Times OpEd pages
America needs realists, not William Kristol.

If the New York Times wants true diversity on its Op-Ed pages, it should hire foreign policy realists, not ideologues.

P.S. Access to salon.com articles is free. If you use Firefox and NoScript, just allow salon.com in NoScript. Otherwise, just click on Sponsor logo if at first you don't get the entire article and can see the sponsor logo (I was unable to see it with Firefox, but when I allowed salon.com in NoScript, I saw the entire article).

This whole thing has been hilarious. A right leaning guy lands an op ed spot in the Times and lefties are falling all over eachother trying to scramble in reaction to it. No one wants someone other than a leftie spewing their ideology in the papers, it seems.

It strikes me as very childish.

Actually, the oped page is exactly the place for idealogues, the problem with the NYT is that they let the idealogues write the news articles, and idealogues write the headlines and decide the placement of the stories too!

Hi WarC,

Well, if ever the NY Times wants to live up to it's moniker, i.e. all the news that's fit to print, then they should not lean either way - really fair and balanced (obviously, NOT FoxNews)!

Like Fred Thompson says ,“you can tell that the news is good coming out of Iraq because you read so little about it in The New York Times.”

LOL!!!! What a moore-on. Everyone has there point of few. The paper's attempt to hire people with different points of view should be applauded, not critized. But this is typical of liberal hypocricy--you people preach about freedom of expression and First Amendment Protections, yet you want absolutely no opposing viewpoints even considered. Seriously--can't you see how other people view you in light of this thread?

All you have to do is read the first paragraph:

Quote:
"In its response to letters protesting the recent hiring of hard-line neoconservative William Kristol as a weekly Op-Ed columnist, the New York Times described the decision as the result of a "long and thoughtful process" by a paper committed to "vibrant political discourse." Editorial page editor Andrew Rosenthal said critics of the move were being "intolerant" and complained about a "weird fear of opposing views."
Why are you afraid of oppossing points of view?

The same reason Skinner won't tolerate Disruptors on DU. They are afraid you'll pay attention to the man behind the curtain and then realize the Wizard is a fraud.

Like always, Mulder, you miss the point entirely! Not a surprise.

Why are you so afraid of reality? Perhaps it is your intolerance of views outside your own. There you go again spouting the L word to describe Independent thinking - something you ought to take up btw. Seems you are the moore-on - a conservative hypocrite who wouldn't know that opposing viewpoints are always welcome - even your pitiful attempts at it.

That's an oxymoron coming from you if I ever heard it. Me vs. you in any type of thoughful analysis of a real issue and how to best address it (as oppossed to cut and link rhetoric) would be a huge mismatch my friend.

I completely agree...It's a shame that a lot of media outlets feel like they need to align against eachother ideologically inorder to draw readers.

Where have you been? I have not seen you complain once about the far left propaganda that the Times puts out ..... not just on the Op-Ed page but in the news as well!

I you'd like, I can give you a few hundred examples of their CLEAR left leaning bias in their news reporting.

Why is it that the Left is more concerned that people who have no claim to constitutional rights, be given those rights while at the same time, want to deny constitutional rights to people who can legitimately claim them? Fools.

But, Mulder - you have absolutely no imagination, not to mention that critical thinking is way beyond your capabilities old chap. You haven't a clue.

So, when did you become the arbiter of whom has a claim to Constitutional rights and whom does not?

Silly fool!
