Sheikh Ahmed Hussein Deedat (July 1, 1918 - August 9, 2005) was a self-proclaimed Muslim scholar of Comparative religion, an author, lecturer, and an orator. He was best known for witty inter-religious public debates. His writings have been criticized as fundamentalist[1], antisemitic[2] , anti-Christian[citation needed] and anti-Hindu[3], though his supporters deny this.

What differentiated Deedat's approach from his contemporaries, apart from his command of the English language, was that he would not only use references from the Qur'an and the Hadith, but also use his intensive knowledge of the Bible and Holy scriptures.

His pre-recorded programs are shown on Peace TV, which is a 24/7 Islamic channel that is based in Mumbai, India, and is being broadcast to many countries around the globe.

Hey Empire,

Yes, I've heard of this guy before. I think he was more moderate scholar than some of the true lunatic "scholars" that have perverted the true meaning of Islam to suit their xenophobic and hate filled ways. However I do sometimes wonder whether he was just pretending to be moderate, then othertimes I heard of more positive things he had done and thought to myself "Well maybe he is moderate afterall"... Some of his readings and literature, particularly with regards Hindus in India and South Africa, sailed "close to the line" in what is acceptable in healthy religious debate. I don't think he was perfect, but I don't think he was the hate filled warmonger that Jack likes to believe all Muslims are.
