Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus and made many executive decisions during the Civil War comparable to aspects of our Patriot Act after 9/11. During WW2 our government also did some questionable things such as the internment of Japanese and German descended citizens of the US.

The history of this nation has shown that these acts, which are seen as infringing on the rights of citizens, are temporary measures which - despite the uproar - very rarely if ever lead to the actual infringement of rights of the vast majority of citizens.

In other words th "hijacking" of America since 9/11 is temporary.

All the more reason for you to be supportive of your government's efforts to destroy functioning global Islamic terrorism. See, the quicker that happens, the quicker we return to normalcy.

but people are so afraid and misled that they would abandon certain rights for security when security in reality is an illusion now that we request certain liberties back and fight for them does not mean that its all temporary.

I personally am not for killing innocent people for oil so my support this gov will not have. Alot of these views are propaganda destined to justify the injustice that proceed the events of 9/11. Osama is Saudi not iraqui. The war is a hoax.

In reality America is hijacked but for ideals with no basis this war is a war on all of us, every penny spent overseas on this egotistical power struggle is a penny the we wont use to better this society.

Ok , that seems to have been the case .
Now , how temporary do you estimate these measures will be , compared with past ?.
Best guess ? . >f

Interesting point of history (interesting to me at least ), the individual that Lincoln had arrested was the nephew of Francis Scott Key and Lincoln had him arrested in Baltimore. So the nephew of the writer of the Star Spangled Banner was arrested in the very city in which the battle was fought that was the inspiration for the national anthem. (I expect credit if this question comes up in a trivia game. )

Adding further useless additional information, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, working in his capacity as a federal Circuit Court Judge, struck down Lincolns' attempt at suspending habeas corpus.

I hardly doubt that it is temporary at this day in age, im not worried about the patriot act now but 50 years from now what it would do to us. Homeland security is a govermental phrase that is as oximoronic as crazy as saying military intelligence or the us dept of justice, they are just phrases that have little relation to reality.
