I'm speechless
I just watched the news and the proposed tax rebate package would reward familys/people an extra $300 for every child/rat they have... I can hear the beds rockin and rollin already...

Once again the single person like myself...that has made a conscious decision to not over populate the world gets screwed...

unbelievable.....

Last I heard there was also a tax rebate going to those that didn't pay income tax.
Looks more like a give away program.

You have made a conscious decision to remain single and have no children {rats ?} in order not to overpopulate ?????. Quite a sacrifice for world good , I take my hat off to you ! Hang in there !
Stoner > yes it will be a give-away , and a bad thing , another raid on the treasury .
It will happen too , the Republicans will give it away to big business {corporate}, and the Democrats to everyone else .
It s one thing they can agree on . >f

Well Mr. Buck. It's kind of like the people whose kids have graduated high school who still have to pay school taxes until they move to some retirement community.

Just listened to Charlie Gibson on World News Tonight about this.

This is a one-time tax rebate.....checks could go out starting in May to about 117 Million families! The purpose is to stave off a recession!

Individual taxpayers would get up to $600, working couples $1,200. Those with children would get an additional $300 per child. 35 million families who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates. I'd like to know how in the heck those families are surviving on that kind of money!

If your adjusted gross income exceeds $75,000 ~ individual.... or for couples with incomes above $150,000... no rebates. Any contributions to IRAs and 401(k)s and health savings accounts are not included in the income limit.

This bill goes to the House next week....then the Senate.

The idea is that when you get your big fat check... you will rush right out and buy buy buy!!!! Thus.... stimulating the economy! I plan on paying off debt and/or using it to pay for my home-heating costs so far this year! Not even sure if that will be enough though!

But hey.... I'll take it! If you don't want yours.... call me!

As always, Lewis Black provides the best related commentary.

If we really hope to stimulate the economy we'd have to make sure the money was spent on domestic goods.

Alternatively (instead of rebates) we could do it the Old School way and raise taxes on imported goods. Including goods produced and brought back from overseas by domestic companies. Good 'ole tariffs. Negating the cost benefit of outsourcing (both jobs and in manufacturing) will help secure the kinds of middle-class jobs that it has been sucking out of the nation for the last few decades.

It makes my veins pop!
Not because of taxes, but because its destructive agent for people , divisive , and nothing but but buying trouble . No one seems interested in alternatives , so ...... here we are.
Another interesting thing , some of the companies I deal with {large corps} are now getting Federal grant money to train employees { computer training } in Company programs .
I just heard about it today , and will post more when I find out the details . All I know is basics , and that employees were ask for personal info in case of govt audit --inc SS numbers . I advised no SS# to outside source {private company--who is not employer } for Union members until we figure it out .

Welfare for do-nothings , Corporate welfare --- if one side gets theirs , its assured the other will too. This govt is in cahoots , a raid on treasury by both parties .
Corporate welfare is a crime , but at least it doesn't directly destroy people --only robs them .

Buck my wife and I are in exactly the same boat as you for probably the same reason(s).

Over the years I've come to the conclusion that the reason our govt's keep dishing it out to the ones with rats is to ensure population growth and a continuing stream of little people growing up to become full fledged tax payers.

These are interesting issues. I like the whole school tax thing. If you don't have kids utilizing the public schools, should you be forced to pay for the public school in your community? Or if your kids have left the school system, should you be forced to pay? Now those who control the schools would say that it's a community thing. If you want to live in a community, you have to contribute to the community. Part of the community is the school system which seeks to educate the youth of the community and thus improve the overall quality of life in the community. On the other hand, why should anyone pay for services that they don't use? For instance, if you don't drive, why should you pay for the road maintenance in your town, or for that matter, the interstate system? I think the answer is obvious.

Just a comment or two to keep the discussion interesting.
1. These are aimed at "working" families-whether they pay income tax or not. I am retired and am not a "working" person-am I left out?
2. On another forum many folks state they are either planning a cruise (money spent overseas) or to pay off credit cards. Neither helps divert any percieved recession.
3. All of us with no kids at home bemoan paying taxes to support those with kids at home, but remember those same kids are going to be paying our social security-with little chance they will ever collect any themselves. I want waste eliminated from schools, but don't want to depend on uneducated Walmart clerks supporting me the next few years either.
