He must have been a Democrat
BEIJING — A wild elephant in southern China attacked an American tourist by tossing him with its trunk, causing the man to suffer from fractured ribs and stomach injuries, an official said Monday.

Ahhhh--I thought you were talking about the elephant being a democrat (i.e., accosting an American tourist). I must admit that for a moment I confused which animal was the symbol of the respective parties (elephant--Rep. and DonkeyCons, err, Donkeys--Demoncrats).
