Home Run for the State of the Union Address!!!
Bush hit one out of the park by all accounts tonight.

I was watching a focus group and I couldn't help but think of the Moore-ons at TSG. They were asking about the tax cuts and should they be made permanent and of course any reasonable minded, rational person who understands economics wants them permanent, but the Moore-Ons for reasons that baffle me want taxes to go up. Interstingly, one of the focus group people said she didn't want the tax cuts permanent because she was a recipient of government benefits and didn't want to lose them! So in essence, she wants a higher burden is placed on the American taxpayer so she gets her benefits! Typical Democrat! What about GETTING A JOB!!!!

BTW--they said that about 100 million Americans would see their taxes raised by $1,800 if the tax cuts are repealed! Why in the world would you support that--why would you want 100 million Americans to be burdened more by taxes?

I liked what McCain said about the speech that we need to cut spending too as well as keep the tax cuts.
I see MAC is way ahead of Mitt in California.

Did he really say anything?

Only thing I've ever heard him say that meant something, was when he stated two nations were axes of evil. That's the only concrete statement I've ever heard him say.

the thing that disgusted me the most was the disparity between parties. It was embarassing to me, as an American, to watch half the crowd stand and applaud and the other half sit back and read their in-flight magazines, as it were. Disgusting show of disparity, and that is one of the main reasons I get so turned off by politics.

But yes, I agree; he did pretty good, especially when it came to the 'get off your arses and do something about this, and do it before Friday'.........

I was really proud of the president after watching the state of the union address.

I have to ask...who were those men in black robes sitting in front of him to his right? I assumed they were judges (no-brainer there) but I didnt get why they were so sober-faced and why they didnt clap at all or stand up at all. The right side of the room got to their feet several time to agree with Mr. President but I didnt see where those guys got up at all. Were they trying to make some kind of silent protest?

lol...ok..the one comedic moment I saw was when the cameras cut to a row of soldiers and one of them burped. I couldnt help but laugh and think that he was going to get soooooo razzed later over it.

It really was a good feeling to see when everyone got up and everyone clapped for him...I got choked up a few times. I hate the tension that I am always seeing between the two parties. I hate the grief that the president is always getting. I think he has tried very hard to be a good leader. Thats all any of us can ask for, no matter what mistakes they make throughout their term.

I missed McCain's comments after. Fell asleep while watching the Governor from Kansas speak.

I saw that focus group too. I agree with everything you said. It's amazing how many people just don't understand the tax cuts and how it benefits everyone. Also, many people are blind to how lowering taxes, both individual and corporate, will make the country grow, increase jobs, etc. From a pure economic standpoint Democrats want (expect) government hand-outs, paid by the upper middle-class and higher earners. Also, from an economic standpoint it is the lower-class, uneducated, unwilling to work, people that usually vote Democratic.

yeah, Ted Kennedy made it a point to act super-interested in the paper he was holding when the camera's were on him. That was flat out childish behavior.

Those were the Supreme Court Justices. They have a history of never applauding.

An infield grounder and barely made it to 1st base. After seven years of Bush debacles, you are really desperate to find something to crow about.

I see another is using your mantra that JFK would not be a Dem under today's standards......another desperate attempt by the right to glomb onto something good and claim as their own. Can't say I blame them considering the last good republican president was Lincoln. Whatever JFK would or would not be, he would still be considered a liberal.

Got a link on that 100 mil / $1,800 thingy?? I suspect the numbers are a lot like rumors of WMD in Iraq.

Quit whining, pony up and pay your taxes. If I can afford it, you certainly can.

Thanks. Is there a reason for it? Like..does their job require that they not show support for either side of a given issue? It doesnt make much sense.

The same thing happened on the other side of the aisle, when Bill was Pres.

President Obama will get both sides to stand.

SCJ's are not supposed to be partisan politically. We all know they are, but protocol is they just let their heartbeat rise, not show outward approval, excitement and fawning.

I get it...but they are only human and they should be able to do more than sit there like lumps! Even the Dem's showed approval at times and we all know that they are opposed to much of what the president says and does.

If they cant get with the program then they shouldnt be there. It looks bad. And its not fair to them because you just know that they were jumping up and down with excitement inside during the speech...I mean, I know I saw an eyebrow twitch a few times.
