How about that Berkeley
BERKELEY, Calif. — Local officials in this liberal city say it's time for the U.S. Marines to move out. The City Council has voted to tell the Marines their downtown recruiting station is not welcome and "if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome guests."
The measure passed this week by a vote of 8-1.

Any thoughts?

I love you guys. You are always calling for local control but when a duly elected offcials make a democratic decision you don't like, you start whining. This is so typical of right wingers. When the Supreme Court over rules the highest court in Florida, you like that, only because it made your Monkey Boy the president. You like "local" control when it suits your political and philosophical goals, but when it does not, you are against it.

Mulderator, Littlefield,

You two are a couple bleeding heart pinkos. Cut funding or send them where we've sent our sons and daughters already? I read this story and dreamed of days gone by. The good old days of Potro and Garrucha. Or if lucky, The Saw or Pear.

Lightweights.

You mean after the Kangaroo Court decided to re-write the state's election laws (a power vested solely in the legislature)? You mean the same decision where a Democratic trial judge ruled in favor of Bush? And the same decision where a stinging dissent was written by a Democrat on the Florida Court? The same decision that would have invalidated Florida's electoral votes (essentially removing it from the 2000 election) since recounts could not be completed before he electoral deadline? You mean that decision?

Seriously, why bother? The potro works better and would be a lot more entertaining.

Since when is the highest court in the STATE (ie. local rule) a Kangaroo Court? Your point about a Democrat trial judge is irrelevant. Last I heard, anyone in the state of Florida is entitled to appeal to the higher court! Again, you open your mouth and prove my point.

You are absolutely correct. That's why they appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States, the highest court. Now maybe I'm a little to liberal in my viewpoint but I would think that issues surrounding the election of the president of the United States just might touch upon federal concerns.

What does the level of the court have to do with it being a Kangaroo Court? Any court can be one. Look at some of the Warren Court decisions. Perfect example.

Sounds logical to me...

Quote:
WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., says the City of Berkeley, Calif., no longer deserves federal money.

DeMint was angered after learning that the Berkeley City Council voted this week to tell the U.S. Marine Corps to remove its recruiting station from the city's downtown.

"This is a slap in the face to all brave service men and women and their families," DeMint said in a prepared statement. "The First Amendment gives the City of Berkeley the right to be idiotic, but from now on they should do it with their own money."
This last line made me laugh out loud...

Seriously, that should happen. The military is an arm of the federal government and the feds should be rightly incensed by that city's actions. Whats going on there is sick! It's a kind of opposition that comes very close to crossing the line of democracy over onto rebellion or treason.
